If you need to have a good connection on the television, you can use different alternatives. You will have the option of connecting the TV to a Wi-Fi repeater, but also to a PLC device, among other alternatives. Now, which is better? What should you take into account? We are going to talk to you about this in this article. The goal is for you to optimize your connection and not have problems watching streaming content in high quality.

Keep in mind that you can also use these same devices to improve the connection on other devices. For example, you may need to have greater coverage for your home automation devices, improve the speed that reaches your computer, a mobile phone or any other device in your home.

Repeater or PLC for TV

The first thing you should know is that it is not always better to use a Wi-Fi repeater or a PLC device. That is, they are two different options and, in their own way, they will help you have better connectivity. You will simply have to observe what is best for your case and choose between these two alternatives.

repeater

If we start talking about Wi-Fi repeaters, we can say that they are the most common and easiest devices to use. Basically, what these devices do is receive the signal from the router and then repeat it in a specific area of the home. With this, you can connect the television to the repeater and have a better signal.

The problem with Wi-Fi repeaters is that they will not always work well, since some variables such as distance, obstacles or possible interference will influence them. Therefore, it is not a good idea if you are too far from the router. Even if you install a repeater, the signal will be so weak that it will not be enough to play videos at maximum quality, for example.

Additionally, if there are obstacles they could affect coverage. The same as possible interferences, such as devices that use Bluetooth, a microwave or even a cordless phone. If you have any of this nearby, you might have trouble getting an optimal connection.

Therefore, we can say that the positive points are the ease of use, relative flexibility in locating them and the price, since they are cheaper. Instead, you must take into account the limitations that we have mentioned: distance to the router, obstacles and possible interference.

PLC

The second option is to use PLC devices, which may or may not be Wi-Fi enabled. They work through electrical wiring. It is usually a kit of two devices: one of them you connect to the router and a socket, while the other you put in another point of the house, which in this case would be near the television.

The advantage is that you can take the connection much further. Furthermore, it is not affected by possible obstacles. It is a good option when you need to take your Internet from one end of the house to the other and be able to connect the television. Now, it is important that the electrical wiring is in good condition, which is why it can fail in an old home, for example.

Ideally, to take optimal advantage of PLC devices, you should connect them to a separate socket, not too far from the television, and connect both devices to each other via a Gigabit Ethernet cable. In this way, you will achieve good stability, as well as correct speed.

In short, you have the option of Wi-Fi repeaters and PLCs to connect your television to the Internet and have better network quality and speed. Choosing one or another alternative will depend on each case. There are two options to optimize your Internet connection, so you should take them into account.
