Windows 11 has several editions, each with its own features. On the one hand, we have the “Home” and “Pro” editions, designed for home use. Then we have the “Enterprise” and “Education” editions, which are more professional. And we also have other special versions such as the IoT or LTSC. However, a few weeks ago, there was talk of a secret edition known as the “Government Edition.” And today, we bring you a first-hand analysis of it.
Windows 11 Government Edition appeared on the web a couple of weeks ago as a completely private and anonymous version of the operating system. As its name suggests, this is an edition that, in theory, is created by Microsoft itself so that it can be installed on computers of government entities, since it focuses, above all, on security and privacy.
As expected, this Windows caught the attention of users, and it’s no wonder. A totally private Windows 11? Just what many want. In addition, as an extra feature, we find that it is a totally “debloated” Windows, that is, all kinds of bloatware and Microsoft and third-party programs have been removed. It is a 100% private Windows and, in addition, 100% clean.
In theory, an ISO with this operating system began to circulate on the Internet. Although it is not easy to find, after searching a bit on different websites we have managed to get hold of it, and we have installed it, of course, in a virtual machine. And, honestly, what we have seen has been a great disappointment.
Windows 11 Government Edition: The Big Scam
The ISO we downloaded is based on Windows 11 24H2, the latest update to the operating system, so it is a relatively recent version. Analyzing the files of the image itself, we can see that it is not an old system, but rather the opposite, since it was created at the end of June.
This system is installed by default in English, but it has traces of Chinese. Why? Very simple, because the person who created it (yes, we said person) has included binaries of the “Enterprise G” edition of Windows 10, an edition that has been discontinued for 5 years and was intended, this time, for the Chinese government.
Furthermore, the removal of bloatware, as well as the activation of the system, are carried out after the installation of the system is finished. This means that what we are installing is an Enterprise edition, probably the famous LTSC, and the relevant modifications have been made to it.
Therefore, Windows 11 Government Edition is fake. This edition does not exist, it is nothing more than a troll from a user with too much free time who has managed to make something viral. And, furthermore, dangerous, since just as it has made the changes we have mentioned, it may also have hidden backdoors or other threats within this system.
Uninstall this Windows if you have installed it
The truth is that things smelled pretty fishy from the start. But now we’ve been able to see it first hand. The virtual machine has now been completely removed from my system, and if you downloaded this edition thinking you were going to install a clean and private Windows, you should consider deleting it completely.
If you want a Windows that is as clean, private and optimized as possible, SoftZone recommends installing the LTSC. We remind you that these editions focus on offering the best performance and stability, so with this edition you will not have any problems other than getting a license (which can be easily purchased in many online stores).
