In the last year, we have seen how many products and services have risen in price, with Spotify being one of the few that had managed to maintain prices, however, not forever. Spotify has just modified through its website what are the prices of new rates of the different plans that it makes available to users.
Apple Music, the only alternative that has been able to stand up to it, although it has less than half the subscribers of Spotify, raised the price of subscription plans a little over a year ago. At the time, there was speculation that Spotify would raise prices, a time that has finally arrived.
New prices for Spotify subscriptions
The reason Spotify has taken so long to raise prices is because it’s not dollar based as a European company. If we take into account that the Spotify subscription costs exactly the same as when it was launched, it was a matter of time before it experienced a price increase.
With the new prices, Spotify’s individual plan, which was priced at 9.99 euros, now costs 10.99 euros. The family plan, which allows 6 members of the same family to enjoy different lists and recommendations, goes up to 17.99 euros, an increase of 3 euros on the price that was maintained until now and which was 14.99 euros.
The duo plan, designed for couples or families without children, before the increase was priced at 12.99 euros and after the increase of 2 euros, they remain at 14.99 euros. The student plan has also suffered a price increase for an amount equal to that of the individual rate, going on to cost 5.99 euros for the 4.99 euros it cost so far.
Alternatives to Spotify
Spotify has been the last music streaming platform to raise prices, so looking for a similar alternative that is cheaper is impossible. As we discussed above, Apple Music raised its prices a year ago, and it costs exactly the same as Spotify.
YouTube Music, Google’s subscription that includes ad-free access to YouTube and the entire music catalogue, went up last week in price, from $11.99 a month to $14.99 a month. The only option we would have left is Amazon Music since for the moment it continues to maintain the price of 9.99 euros for the individual plan, but, just as the competition has done, it will not take long to raise prices.
Another option is to stop paying the monthly subscription and go to the plan with Spotify ads, even if this means not being able to choose which song we want to play, limitation when it comes to skipping songs, not being able to download songs and of course, the happy advertising that is displayed more than regularly and regularly.
