Microsoft 365 is a service, in the form of a subscription, with which Microsoft allows users to use the entire Office office suite, in its most recent version, in addition to offering them other useful functions and benefits on a daily basis. The idea, to give more and more value to its product, is for Microsoft to add new functions and features within this service in order to continue adding users. The problem is that you can’t always add functions, and sometimes you have to delete them.
The Microsoft 365 subscription is not only intended for home users, but also seeks to make its way into business environments and among professionals. Therefore, it is easy to find some functions and features that, although we will not use it much at home, in companies and in a professional work environment they are very useful.
One of these features is Microsoft Feed. The concept behind this function is to show a kind of feed, as if it were a social network, where users in a work group could see the document history of other people and interact with each other. It will be a kind of way of working collaboratively, although with nuances.
It seems that in the end it has not been as successful as this function should have been. And, so, as part of the suite’s cleanup plans, Microsoft has finally decided to remove it.
Goodbye to Microsoft Feed
It seems that integrating a kind of strange social network into an office suite was not a good idea, and “Source”, or “Feed”, was not as successful as the company expected. For this reason, Microsoft has confirmed that this function will disappear from all Microsoft 365 applications, without going any further, starting November 1 of this year.
The platforms where this News Feed was available were:
- Microsoft 365 (formerly Outlook.com)
- edge
- Outlook Mobile
- Microsoft 365 Mobile
- Microsoft 365 app for Windows
This change makes it clear that Microsoft is putting a lot of effort into simplifying the use of its tools. And if a feature isn’t clear enough, or doesn’t work for users, you won’t hesitate to remove it from your suite.
Alternative
If you have never used this feature within the suite, you probably won’t miss it. But if you did use it, Microsoft at least has good news for you. And all the functions and features that were part of this feed of changes are now found in the “Recommended” section of the program. This is where we can see all the activity of colleagues, files that have had significant changes, files that other people have created and shared with us, and much more.
Eliminating the “Feed” option and integrating its functions into “Recommended” does not seem like a bad move to us. Although announcing it less than a month in advance does seem risky, since there may be users who do not have time to change, or simply do not find out about the change.
