Netflix has not updated its app for Windows computers, but is instead launching a new version, although this time users will finally lose one of the platform’s star features: watching content offline. Since last May, the platform announced that it would end up renewing it for another one, and with this, new changes would come to its application.

One of the features that Netflix stands out for is that it allows downloads of movies, series, etc. on iOS and Android mobiles, as well as Windows computers. However, subscribers to this platform who enjoyed watching content offline from their PC will no longer be able to do so.

The new app says goodbye to downloads

The Netflix app for Windows had been left behind compared to other streaming services, that’s clear. The problem came when the platform decided to launch a new version from the start, instead of updating the one they already had. Something that was initially seen in a good light, especially because it was going to include the new features that have been released on this platform. As is the clear example of live events, better image quality, etc.

However, with the change of app for Windows, users who want to continue enjoying this streaming service through the app lose one of the functions that for many was one of the top: downloads. One of the many Netflix features with which subscribers had the opportunity to watch content without an Internet connection. Something that is maintained on other devices, such as smartphones.

This feature has been available in the Netflix app since the Windows 8 era. But with the app change, users will no longer have the option to continue using this functionality. To continue downloading titles, users will need to use an Android or iPhone phone, an Amazon Fire tablet, or a Google Chromebook.

It is a copy of the web version

Another thing that has caught our attention about this new version of Netflix for Windows is that it is directly the same option that is seen through any browser. This is because it is a progressive web app in which Edge is used to load the content that is seen in the same way from the browser on your computer. Although, in this case, it is based on Microsoft Edge. In addition, it has been directly verified that Netflix.com loads in an Edge container.

To give you an idea, every single feature that can be found on the web version of Netflix is also available on the new app. And aside from the fact that the download functionality has been removed, the positive side is that Windows users don’t lose any more features with the change of app. So there’s no need to add any more bad news for subscribers.
