PlayStation users have come across news in recent hours that does not go unnoticed. The PlayStation Stars program has modified its terms and incorporated a series of changes, among which you can see that the points will now expire sooner.
Be very careful if you were in PlayStation Stars with your PlayStation console, since users who are still interested in maintaining their subscription must accept the new terms. Sony has informed this in an email sent to users that it would not be strange if it had ended up in your spam folder. Therefore, take a look or connect to the console.
Changes already made
Since yesterday, October 24, the PlayStation Stars update has been active, forcing users to accept the terms. In the email, Sony mentions that, obviously, they would be sorry if users did not accept the new terms to continue with the service. Anyway, the good news is that there are several ways to accept them and continue with your subscription. One of them is from the PlayStation app, which gives you remarkable convenience. In addition, you can also confirm the terms by entering your PlayStation profile within the service’s own website.
Once this is clarified, we can talk about the points. This change to the PlayStation Stars conditions has now come into effect. Based on what Sony has communicated, we discovered that now the points we obtain will expire 12 months after they have been added to our balance. Previously, PlayStation Stars points expired after 24 months, so users find themselves halving the time. Points expire at the end of the month corresponding to when they are due to expire. Of course, the good news is that this applies to the new points you get from now on. If you earned PlayStation Stars points before October 24, they will still expire after 24 months.
What more changes are coming?
In addition to the expiration of points, Sony has also made another modification. In this case it is a change in what is understood as “eligible purchases” of what is linked in the PlayStation environment with PlayStation Stars points. The reason for this modification is simple: Sony wants payments corresponding to subscriptions made in the PlayStation Store to stop providing points to users.
At least, this change will come into effect on March 1, 2025, so we still have time ahead to get our heads around it. Therefore, if you continue to subscribe to PlayStation Plus or a subscription service that is available in the PlayStation Store, you will continue to add points to your PlayStation Stars account for the time being. Keep in mind that it will be something that ends, but you can continue taking advantage until that day and thus collect more points.
If for some reason, such as not accepting the new terms, your account is cancelled, the good news is that you can sign up again and you will recover everything you had. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about losing the points you have accumulated that have not yet expired. With PlayStation Stars points, PlayStation users can access all types of rewards, from digital items and collectibles to complete games in their digital versions. It is not a program that has had a particularly strong impact, but the PlayStation community trusts that it will continue to improve in the future. Unfortunately, these changes will not be widely applauded, quite the opposite.
