On May 4th we will be silent for 2 minutes during Remembrance Day. Also put your smartphone away, put it on silent or Do Not Disturb, so you can commemorate in peace without being tempted to use your iPhone.

Remembrance Day on May 4

We are busy with our smartphones 24 hours a day. We have to stay in touch with friends all the time, keep up with all the popular Netflix series and be able to participate in the latest internet hype… but not on the evening of May 4. The National Committee 4 and 5 May has been calling for years to put your smartphone aside for two minutes during the National Remembrance Day. With as little distraction as possible, you can reflect on the people who have fallen for your freedom.

2 minutes of silence for Remembrance Day

You can usually keep your mouth shut during commemorations, but the temptation is great to sneak a peek at your iPhone screen. You can also remember while you are playing a game, right? Well no, says the National Committee 4 and 5 May. Public transport, radio and TV also pay attention to the Remembrance Day so that you can commemorate with full attention.

Remembrance Day Silence

Notifications from apps can disrupt the silence and tempt you to grab your iPhone anyway. By muting your iPhone, you at least ensure that sounds do not disturb your commemoration. In order not to be tempted yourself, it is smart to activate a Focus on your iPhone, so that you do not get any vibrations, notifications or other forms of distraction on your iPhone.

The initiators want you to show respect for the people who died for freedom by also not using your smartphone for 2 minutes. You can decide for yourself whether you put the iPhone away, put it on silent or switch it off completely. The most convenient thing is to put your iPhone on do not disturb and use the aforementioned Focus mode, so that you do not get vibrations. You can also switch it off completely, although that may be a bit too drastic.

Make a call for 2 minutes of silence yourself

If you want to let others know that you are reflecting on Remembrance Day and call on them to do the same, you can do so with a tweet, Instagram or Facebook message, for example. Of course you do that well before 20:00.
