Logitech has a new version of the portable Keys-to-go keyboard: the KEYS-TO-Go 2. In this review of the Logitech Keys-To-Go 2 you can read our experiences, what the positive points are and what better can.

As early as 2018, Logitech released the very first KEYS-TO-Go, a portable keyboard that was primarily intended for people who would like to type on a physical keyboard on an iPhone or iPad and are often on the road. The KEYS-TO-Go is characterized by being thin and light, as the name suggests. Yet this model also had quite a few disadvantages. The included holder for your iPhone or iPad felt a bit cheap and the typing was very heavy due to the keys used. Logitech has solved a number of our criticisms with the KEYS-TO-Go 2, but has also introduced a number of new disadvantages. Is this the perfect keyboard to always take in your bag? You can read that in this review of the KEYS-TO-Go 2.

Review, text and photos: Benjamin Kuijten (@Benjaminrk). The test was carried out in June and July 2024 and describes the situation at that time. The keyboard has been made available by the manufacturer for this test.

Logitech KEYS-TO-GO 2 in use

The original KEYS-TO-Go consisted of an almost entirely rubber top layer, over the keys. They were not individual keys with slots in between like a traditional keyboard. The advantage of this is that dirt has no chance to sit between the keys, but a disadvantage is that it types very hard. That was one of our biggest criticisms. Although this design choice provided the entire flat design, this was at the expense of ease of use. Typing was therefore not always fun, certainly not with long pieces of text.

Review Logitech Keys-TO-Go 2

At the KEYS-TO-GO 2 that is 180 degrees. The keyboard simply has individually impressive keys as you are used to from a normal keyboard, but in a slim housing. Although the new version is slightly larger, it is less deep and the thickness runs slanted as you are used to at Apple’s own Magic Keyboards. This also makes the keys a bit tilted to you, which gives a finer typing experience than the keys that are completely flat, such as the previous generation.

The Key Travel of 1mm is comparable to Apple’s own Magic Keyboard, making it much nicer than the previous generation. The keys themselves and the housing are made of plastic and we really think that is fine. The keys are not as smooth as with Apple’s own Magic Keyboard, because there is a bit more structure. The chance that you slide away from the keys with your fingers is therefore minimal.

Review: Logitech KEYS-TO-GO 2 Keyboard is very portable, but still type

All in all, the typing experience on the Logitech Keys-To-Go 2 is a lot better than with the first generation. What is also useful are the function keys at the top. F1, F2 and F3 are buttons with which you can quickly switch between three connected Bluetooth devices, so that you can switch effortlessly. Other function keys are for the brightness, volume, emoji and locking your device. This works well on both iPhone, iPad and Mac. For Mac there is also a test for Mission Control. What we also find handy: a button to make a screenshot.

Speaking of the button layout: we think some tests are somewhat narrow. All letters and numbers are the same size, but the keys for a dash or hook are almost half so narrow. This makes it a greater chance that you will tap incorrectly. The Option and Command tests are also slightly narrower than the other tests and that requires some habituation in use.

No more holder, but a protective valve

Where the first KEYS-TO-Go was still delivered with a plastic holder to use your iPhone or iPad upright, that is no longer the case with the new variant. Logitech assumes that you already have a cover on your iPad so that you can put it upright. As far as we are concerned, a good choice, because the holder of the first version only made the keyboard more unstable and had a non -adaptable viewing angle. Logitech could of course have solved that with another holder, but that probably makes the keyboard a bit thicker and heavier. And you will only lose a loose standard.

Review Logitech Keys-TO-Go 2: Protective valve opened open

What the KEYS-TO-Go 2 does have is a protective valve. This is attached to the keyboard and can be folded completely into the keyboard. This makes the keyboard a bit thicker, but that is only pleasant while typing. The protective folding sticks magnetically to the bottom of the keyboard and also provides extra grip. Are you finished typing and you want to put the keyboard back in your bag again, you simply close the valve again.

What we find a missed opportunity is that the keyboard does not automatically go into sleep if you close the protective valve. It is therefore pure and only a protective valve so that keys are not just pressed in your bag. But with a little power you can even press the keys through the protective valve, with a chance that you will undesirably press something on your device if it is still connected. If you want to prevent this, you have to switch off the switch on the back to completely switch off the keyboard. Not really smart for us. That could have been better, because the chance that you forget to turn off the switch is therefore high. You just want to close the valve and go, without having to think about turning the keyboard on or off.

Battery life and charging

The KEYS-TO-GO 2 has a battery life of three years. That is exceptionally long for a keyboard, so you don’t have to worry about the battery life for the time being. But there is a disadvantage: it contains button cell batteries. Just charging just as quickly when the battery is empty is not included. So it could just be that you are suddenly without power, especially because you probably don’t think about it after three years. Fortunately, you can easily see how much power is still in it, in the Bluetooth settings or in the battery widget on iPhone and iPad.

Conclusion Logitech KEYS-TO-GO 2 Review

It took quite a few years, but with the KEYS-TO-Go 2, Logitech has a worthy successor. Many criticisms of the original have been resolved, so Logitech has listened carefully to the feedback. Typing is much more pleasant than on the original and that is the most important thing about a keyboard. In addition, not much is returned to portability, because the keyboard is still thin and light. The protective valve also offers some protection for when the keyboard is in your bag.

Yet we wanted some extra functions for this protective valve and it is a missed chance that Logitech has not done with that anymore. For example, it is a pity that the keyboard does not go into sleep if you close it and that you should always think about turning it off. The button cell batteries last three years (and that is quite long), but if you often forget to turn it off, it can just be a bit shorter.
