The deadline is approaching to see which of the three giants wins this mega tender from the Government. After several adjustments by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, it is already beginning to distribute a series of tasks with the aim of closing this contract that has a value of more than 381 million euros with Telefónica, Vodafone or MasOrange.
There is no doubt that this is one of the great public competitions of the last five years. However, the process has taken longer than necessary due to the different changes that the Zegona red operator demanded at the time. Once resolved, the Government begins the race against time to carry out this procedure, so these three telecom companies will have to fight and present their different proposals, carry out the corresponding assessment and, finally, make the award, formalize and carry out the signing. of the contract.
A contract against the clock
The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service begins to distribute the different tasks to the organizations in this public tender, which has an initial value of more than 381 million euros. One of the most notable points of this fight between Vodafone, Telefónica and MasOrange is the fact that the time frame they have is short, in fact, all the work must be completed before March 2025. And all because From that date is when they should be launched with the execution deadline. So there is no doubt that the award will be given in record time if there is no desire to go for a second extension of the contract that is already in force today.
That this distribution of tasks has been postponed in time is also due to the fact that Vodafone demanded a series of changes in the distribution of the lots. Something that had to do with the complete national network package, which took into account both the fixed and mobile networks and multi-service data networks. However, the final decision was to split it in two.
Now, during this month of November, the Contracting Board of the Ministry of Digital Transformation has met to carry out some internal changes, in addition to distributing the tasks related to the procedure in question. After this, the time trial begins, since all of the above were only the initial steps of this adjudication process.
They are 381 million euros, but the amount can go down
With barely three and a half months left before the execution period begins, Telefónica, MasOrange and Vodafone will have to present their offers and see which of the three finally manages to sign the contract. All this must be ready by the end of February, since the execution period begins on March 1, 2025.
And although the initial amount is more than 381 million euros, already with taxes included, there is a probability that the final amount could be lower. In any case, there are still a few months ahead and the technical and economic specifications with the different selection criteria are yet to be known, since they have not been made public at the moment.
