Household chores is one of those issues that can end up in discussion if an equitable distribution is not agreed between the people who share a house. For this very reason, the Ministry of Equality is going to launch an application in the coming months that will be used to account for the domestic chores carried out by the members of the household, whether they are men or women.
When buying a house as a couple or sharing a flat, housework becomes a fundamental point for many. And it is not for less, since the maintenance of the house depends on it. For this reason, Equality will launch an application that will allow knowing how many hours of domestic work have been carried out by women and men.
The release date of this new app for smartphones is still unknown. But, according to the ministry’s statements, it will arrive in the “next few months”, so we can get to use it before the end of the year.
Count the hours of household chores
Although not many details are known about the new application, the main function is more than clear: to find out how many hours of work at home are carried out by women and how many by men. This has been advanced by the Secretary of State for Equality, Ángela Rodríguez.
It is not yet a reality, but this future mobile app was announced during the secretary’s speech in Geneva, since she was in charge of the Spanish delegation presenting the IX Periodic Report of Spain and which is being examined by the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
This software, which does not yet have a release date, since it is only known that it will be available in the “coming months”, will be for smartphones. Although it is unknown at the moment if it will also be available for both Android phones and with the Apple operating system.
The main idea is to have all the hours controlled for cleaning time at home, cooking hours, etc., carried out by the men and women who share a house. It was last March when the Ministry of Equality awarded the development of this app, as well as a web page, for a value of 210,000 euros for this purpose.
Among the features that it has been possible to know about this application, in addition to counting the hours, it has been explained that people will have to register in said application so that they can record the time they spend in carrying out the tasks proposed by the program.
Not only does the cleaning of the home come into play, but other actions will also be taken into account, such as the time spent on shopping, child care, kitchen tasks, etc. All this data will serve as an indication for the ministry to analyze if there really is inequality in the distribution of responsibilities, since the app’s algorithms can obtain statistics from this.
