Few people know that the European Union has an online platform where you can order free maps and books. This is the website of the EU Publications Office. Many publications are paid for, but there are physical copies that do not cost money.

The Publications Office of the European Union is an organisation that is responsible for providing the citizens of the continent with maps, books and other publications. From educational books or information on artificial intelligence or the environment, to maps or material designed for teachers.

There are some documents that cost money, but there are many that don’t. Among them, maps stand out, where there is a wide variety that costs 0 euros. Anyone can download and print them at home completely free of charge (even those that cost money in physical form), but you have to pay the shipping costs if you want it to be delivered printed and bound.

Which publications are free and which are not?

It may seem difficult to find maps or books that cost 0 euros (excluding shipping costs). That is why, at ADSLZone, we wanted to make it easy for you.

First of all, all the maps in this European online store are free. From the latest edition of Travel Europe 2024 to a basic one showing the old continent with all the names and flags of the different countries.

But there are other catalogues, dedicated to children, teachers, or anyone who wants to learn more about the EU and its proposals. In Spanish, there are four categories with very diverse publications:

  • How the EU works
  • Facts about the EU
  • The Green Deal & Energy
  • Teaching materials

How the EU works

If we go to How the EU works, we will see many that we can view online, and even print out at our own expense. But only a few are free. Within this section we will learn in depth about the workings of the continental body. Among them, the following stand out:

  • ‘The European Parliament: The voice of citizens in the European Union’
  • ‘The EU in 2023: General report on the activities of the European Union’
  • ‘The Council of the European Union’

Facts about the EU

While the other section was dedicated to explaining what the EU is, this section offers you brief explanations about the body’s work in different policy areas. Why is it involved in them? What are the results of the initiatives enacted by the EU?

Unfortunately, this is not the case. There are no publications that are free. In fact, you cannot order a physical copy to be delivered to you by paying. Fortunately, you can read the documents online.

The Green Deal & Energy

Climate change and environmental degradation are issues that the EU takes very seriously. In this regard, the organisation considers it a threat to the existence of our planet. For this reason, they have an entire section dedicated to it, with publications available in Spanish.

Unfortunately, there are very few books that you can order for home delivery. In our language, we have one, but it costs money. It is one called ‘European Green Deal: Achieving our goals’. And in English or French there is one for 0 euros, which is called ‘European Green Deal: Strengthening EU legislation to combat environmental crime’.

Teaching materials

Do you want your child to be interested in the European Union from a young age? Or maybe you are a teacher and you want to give an educational lesson about the continental body? Well, this section has it all and is suitable for all ages.

In this case, many materials can be ordered for home delivery. But they are rarely free. There are many colouring and painting books, educational books about the EU, activities or children’s stories. Among them, some for 0 euros do sneak in:

  • Paper Pac-Man
  • Make your own paper Pac-Man! How much do you know about agriculture and food?
  • Treasure hunt on the farm
  • Europe, better together!
