If we talk about Winamp, we are talking about a legendary application for millions of users around the world used to play music in digital and physical formats between the late 90s and early 2000s.

Since its launch in 1997, the application passed through the hands of American Online (AOL) and became a reference, everyone used this application as if no other alternatives existed. Winamp became available for iOS and Android mobile devices, however, in 2013, AOL announced that it was completely abandoning development of the application, selling the platform to a Belgian Internet radio station a year later.

In almost 10 years, we have not heard from Winamp again, until earlier this year, when a web version of what is now Winamp was launched, a platform to enjoy music from independent artists and support them financially. From this same website, we can also download the classic player for Windows, an updated player to be compatible with Windows and Windows 11, which has the same design that all of us who have used the application know well, including the function of converting music to MP3 , version that we can download through the following link.

As we mentioned above, Winamp was already available via browser for mobile devices, however, if we want to fully enjoy everything it offers us, the best thing we can do is use the native application, an application that, as reported by the company, will be launched in its final version before the end of 2023, although we can already download the beta version, a version that will not have many differences with the final version, at least in terms of design and functionality.

The beta version is available through the Play Store from herewhile, in order to download the beta for iPhone or iPad, we have to previously download the TestFlight application from the App Store and click on the following link to join the beta program.

Winamp for iOS and Android

The Winamp application for iOS and Android allows us not only to access the entire music library that we have stored on our device, but it also allows us to access all the content available through the online version. Of course, we must be clear that the design of this application has nothing to do with that of yesteryear

The Winamp application for mobile phones is a copy of those that we can already find through the web and desktop versions, a platform from where we can access the catalog of more than 17,000 independent artists that we can support financially through a subscription. If you know how Patreon works (a platform that allows you to make regular donations to content creators of all kinds), we could say that Winamp is a kind of Patreon for independent artists. In addition, it also has support for NFTs to support artists, although its heyday passed more than 2 years ago and currently, no one invests in this type of product, so it is a matter of time before this functionality disappears.
