Qi2 is the latest standard for wireless charging. This standard is based on MagSafe, but can be applied more broadly. They are also suitable for Android devices. The first Qi2 chargers have been available since early 2024 and the range is constantly expanding. As with most MagSafe chargers, you can charge at 15 Watts, but for a lower price because no licensing fees have to be paid to Apple. Which chargers are available in stores and why would you choose a Qi2 charger instead of a MagSafe charger? That’s all covered in this guide.

Belkin Qi2 Chargers
Belkin often works closely with Apple, but has also announced the first Qi2 chargers early. The American manufacturer has three chargers with Qi2, including the well-known 3-in-1 charging station. This is a charging board with a Qi2 section for up to 15W, a Qi section of up to 5W (for example for AirPods) and an Apple Watch puck with fast charging.

BlueBuilt Qi2 wireless charger
If you are looking for a simple charger for just your iPhone, this BlueBuilt Qi2 Wireless Charger 15 Watt is an excellent solution. BlueBuilt is Coolblue’s own brand and has the advantage that you get a 5-year warranty. The charger is easy to carry and is suitable for iPhones and Samsung smartphones. All devices since the iPhone 8 are suitable for this, but devices with MagSafe (iPhone 12 and newer) charge extra quickly.

Anker MagGo Qi2 Chargers
Anker has released a series of Qi2-based chargers, consisting of power banks, wireless chargers and charging stations. They charge your iPhone at 15 Watts. They are all part of the Anker MagGo series and are therefore magnetic, just like MagSafe. What is striking is that the MagGo accessories can hardly be distinguished from MagSafe accessories and that is of course no coincidence.
Previous Anker MagGo accessories were MagSafe compatible (i.e. not officially certified) and were limited to 7.5 watts for iPhone users. So make sure you have the latest Qi2 version, because it charges super fast.

Anker’s first Qi2 accessory was a 10,000 mAh power bank (€89) with kickstand and USB-C port, which allows you to charge other devices at up to 27 Watts. There is an LCD screen on the side where you can read the battery charge. This power bank is available in several colors. Since then, several power banks have appeared, also with a different capacity.

The desk holder in the photo above (approx. €100) is the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (Foldable 3-in-1). This offers space for an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods in a very compact design. You can charge your Apple Watch Series 9 and newer to almost 50% in half an hour thanks to fast charging. You can also charge your AirPods on a tray on the inside while charging your iPhone.

Anker makes many more products, such as the 3-in-1 ‘macaron’ charger shown above. You can fold it compactly, while using it to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods super quickly. This is ideal when traveling, if you are looking for a compact charger. Below we have included a number of different chargers in the price comparator.
Mophie Qi2 chargers
Mophie has released Qi2 accessories in the snap+ series, namely two desktop chargers and two car chargers. The magnetic charger consists of a simple disk, which looks somewhat like Apple’s MagSafe Charger. This costs around 40 euros. There is also a car charger that you can attach to the ventilation grille.

ESR car charger with Qi2
ESR has released the HaloLock car holder in a number of variants in recent years. We once reviewed the magnetic ESR HaloLock, which was later followed by a version with MagSafe certification. This is quite expensive because of the licensing costs that the manufacturer has to pay to Apple: it costs more than 100 euros! No, then it is better to opt for the variant with Qi2, because it costs around 40 euros. There are two models: one with normal airflow and another with Cryoboost that keeps your iPhone extra cool. It doesn’t make much difference in terms of price

What is better, Qi2 or MagSafe?
Qi2 and MagSafe are both better than the previous standard Qi, mainly because of their magnetic connection. This means you can be sure that the device is properly placed on the charger and charging can take place more efficiently. Qi2 and MagSafe can also both charge faster wirelessly, namely 15 Watts. This applies to the iPhone 12 and newer.
Qi2 is almost identical to MagSafe in many respects. Logically too, because it is derived from it. If you have an iPhone 12 or newer, you can choose a Qi2 charger without any problems. Qi2’s round magnet is exactly the same size as the MagSafe magnetic ring. Furthermore, there is no difference in ease of use or speed.
Why choose a Qi2 charger?
- Qi2 chargers are much cheaper because no licensing fees have to be paid to Apple
- Qi2 chargers offer the same functionality as MagSafe.
- Qi2 chargers are also suitable for (future) Android devices and accessories.
Why choose a MagSafe charger?
- There is currently a wide choice of MagSafe chargers, so you can find exactly what you are looking for. The supply of Qi2 chargers is still very limited.
- If you choose the latest Apple MagSafe Charger, you can charge at 25 Watts (this does not apply to other MagSafe chargers). This is not yet possible with Qi2.
