Most people keep important and confidential things on their smartphone. Secret conversations, photos and videos that they don’t want more people to see, the passwords to their social networks and the bank… To protect all this data from prying eyes, users usually set up unlock codes or patterns. But what happens if you forget? If you have a Xiaomi, there are several ways to lock the phone without violating your privacy in case the mobile falls into the wrong hands.
In the Spanish market, the best-selling smartphone brand is Xiaomi. This Chinese company is characterized by manufacturing mobile phones with an excellent quality-price ratio that makes users in Spain opt for their purchase.
Like any modern phone, those from this Asian brand enjoy several privacy options and the most used is undoubtedly the unlock pattern or password. With this feature, Xiaomi owners ensure that almost no one can access their information without their consent. However, if you are reading this article, it is possible that you have forgotten the password you had entered and need help to solve it.
Luckily, there are several options that can help you unlock a Xiaomi smartphone if you don’t remember the password. Unfortunately, you may lose your data, as the devices are designed so that no one can easily access your information.
Recover your password with Gmail
Currently, Xiaomi’s operating system does not allow you to recover the unlock pattern or password with Google. But, if you have an old model that is not updated, you may get the “Forgot your password” option.
If this function works, you can ask the mobile phone to send you a new password to your email. This way, you can access your phone and modify the lock settings with a password that you will remember.
Factory reset with Google
Xiaomi phones run on Android, so you probably have a linked Google account. If so, you can factory reset your smartphone easily. This feature will cause you to lose all your photos and other data if you don’t have a backup, but it will ensure that you can continue using your phone for longer.
All you have to do is go to Google’s “Find my device” website. Once inside the page, click on the phone you want to access and click on «Reset the device to factory state«.
Google will notify you of everything that this action entails, such as, for example:
- All data is permanently deleted.
- After a factory reset, the device location is no longer available in Find My Device.
- In case the phone has no connection, the data will be deleted when it can connect.
There is another option to reset the Xiaomi that, although it is more complex to do, does not require that you have logged in with your Google account. In this case, you must press the volume up and power off buttons at the same time and then turn it off. Then, turn it on while pressing the mentioned keys simultaneously.
If you follow these steps, the device will enter a hidden menu known as recovery mode. You will be able to move around this interface with the volume buttons and to click on an option, you will have to press the power button. With the help of these keys, you will have to go to “Wipe Data” and select “Factory Reset”.
Unlocking with biometric data
More and more phones allow you to unlock the device with biometric data. The most recent Xiaomi models have this option and it is advisable to configure this blocking method when you start using the device. This way, we make sure we can unlock it in case we forget the password or pattern.
Unfortunately, the functionality can only be activated from the phone settings. That is, if you do not remember the password at this time, you will not be able to configure it. We recommend that you have it enabled if your phone is unlocked. This way, if you block it and don’t remember the pattern, you can enter anyway.
