Elon Musk recently changed the use of social network X radically. It occurred to him that it was convenient to hide the likes so that no one knows what you have your heart set on. The idea seems to open the season in X so that no one cuts a hair. But can you imagine what could happen if the Tesla magnate suddenly decides to back out? What a catastrophe!
The changes that Now everything is full of bots that are placed in the comments of posts trying to divert your attention as if it were a TikTok-type video wall. Additionally, Elon Musk has made likes private.
Anything goes
Previously, it was common for many people to be very shy about liking X. After all, they knew that other people would see it. Not only by entering your profile and clicking the “Like” tab, but also through the appearance of those publications on your friends’ walls. It didn’t always happen, but if you liked something, you knew it could appear to your followers. And, of course, that “Paquito likes” notice was included.
Therefore, the normal thing was to limit the likes and not do any that were compromising. Of course, not everyone took it into account and that had left some of the most facepalm moments ever recorded in the history of X. Actors, footballers and other personalities had not realized how things were going and had given some pretty crazy likes. Then it was time to start removing the little hearts, but in X you already know that you can’t keep secrets.
A radical change
Now we forget to catch celebrities red-handed because the likes are hidden. And it is a shame, since it is a significant loss. This increase in privacy is already having a direct effect on the publications that are becoming the most viral in X. And no, we are not going to give any examples because they are going out of style. But we are already seeing how some people are taking advantage of it to give free rein to the “like” knowing that no one will find out what they are doing.
Not that it’s anything bad, of course. A little privacy is always nice. Furthermore, evaluating it objectively, one could say that Musk has made an excellent decision. After all, if a user wants to share with someone that they like something, they can republish it or talk about it. On the other hand, it must be taken into account that likes are not 100% private.
The reason for this is that there will be an exception to who can see your likes: the person on the account you are posting them to. This continues to be a good idea and is something that users seem to like. They can continue to show the account that they are interested in it without publicly having to show it to everyone. It’s a good way so that no one has to hold back on their tastes for fear of other people judging them. If you like to listen to the music of a singer who has a bad reputation among your friends, you won’t have to worry, because they won’t know that you are liking his posts. But, at the same time, the singer will know that you are a fan.
What if he backs out?
Imagine the panorama. Within a year Elon Musk changes his mind. For some reason, he no longer wants to hide the like from him, and he decides that he’s going to back off. Suddenly, the accounts of thousands of users may find themselves between a rock and a hard place.
Because if, suddenly, it is announced that the likes are public again, surely it would not take us long to go and browse some of the accounts we follow. And be careful, because we are not talking about friends or family, but about celebrities and celebrities. It can be a festival! Screenshots would fly back and forth and X would become a battlefield. The level of chaos that could occur in a matter of a few hours would be absolutely delicious. And surely that would make X, even for a few days, revitalize the users’ interest. It would not be, put that way, a bad maneuver on Musk’s part if at some point he needs a radical turn to help him gain more access to the social network.
Of course, with Elon you never know what can happen. Likes may never be public again. Or even if they came back, it could be that all the likes between the two dates in question are hidden due to commitment to users. Who knows what could happen. But surely more than one user thinks twice before getting out of control and going crazy with his account. It wouldn’t be the first time that Elon Musk makes contrary decisions in a short space of time!
