The reminders that help us day by day with our daily tasks have always been an indispensable part of the history of human beings, and with the arrival of new technologies, it is also now within our digital environment. However, sometimes we are not aware that Windows allows us to customize and schedule alerts to get better performance from our operating system.

To do this, we have at our disposal various tools that are not only capable of reminding us of a task, routine or not, but also have widgets to be aware of certain parameters of new equipment and our digital environment. Today we bring you a small compilation of them that we are sure that, with good use, you will be able to take advantage of them.

Windows Task Scheduler

This utility, which we will easily find through the search engine of our Windows Explorer, seems extremely useful and stands out for its simplicity. It is not necessary to install any plugin, as it appears by default with our operating system. With it, we will have the ability to automate notifications for simple or periodic tasks, depending on what we want, and it will be in charge of notifying us through the desktop. Do you want to take the dog out at a specific time? No problem.

Once we enter the application, we will have a drop-down menu at our disposal with different options, but in this case, we are going to focus on a basic task such as a routine activity. To do this, we will create a basic task from the Actions tab:

The application will guide us step by step so that we configure necessary parameters, such as the name of the task, the frequency with which it will be carried out or the need (or not) of a Windows program to start our tasks. For example, if we want to organize our free time to improve our graphic design skills, we can configure it with the specific path of Adobe Photoshop so that it runs at the scheduled time.

Microsoft To Do

For those looking for something more intuitive and with a more innovative design, the Microsoft To Do application is an ideal solution. This application, which we will find for free in the Microsoft Store, allows you to create a task list with personalized reminders. Once configured, these will appear as pop-up notifications that will appear to the right of our taskbar at a time we decide.

Through its intuitive and attractive design, with only one column on each side of the menu, located in the center, the application invites us to add new touches to our reminders so that they do not miss a detail, and, if we configure it this way, it can Send notifications to our email or mobile device for greater versatility.

Rainmeter: a widget-based tool

Apart from the reminders that we can find in the previous features, Rainmeter gives a twist with the possibility of customizing the desktop. This is due to the ability to download “skins” from their website and amplify their customization features to a new level. I myself have been able to test its functionalities in my own interface.

Finally, it should be noted that thanks to the fact that it has an active community, new widgets are added periodically to get more performance out of our assistant.

Windows Action Center

The Windows Action Center is not, specifically, a notification scheduler like the previous ones, but we can consider it as the command center for all of them. From this utility, you can manage the applications and manage the permissions that each of them may require separately (including Microsoft To Do or Rainmeter itself). To do this, you just have to open the settings from the Windows Explorer search engine and select the “System” box. Once inside, in the left column you will only have to go to “Notifications and actions” and you will be shown a list of applications to select.

Custom notifications

As you can see in the image, you can individually activate or deactivate notifications for each of the applications on your computer and you even have the possibility of doing it at a stroke using another option in the context menu.

The options that we have provided in this article are not the only viable ones within the Windows environment, but we do think that they are the most optimized when it comes to providing precise and customizable help.
