Both on a personal and professional level, most users need some programs focused on office work. Here we are referring to such popular suites as Microsoft Office, Google Docs, or the open source LibreOffice project.
At the same time there are many other proposals similar to these, although somewhat less known, but with a similar operation. Most of them are made up of a series of programs necessary for these tasks. As we mentioned, two of the most popular alternatives of this type are those offered by Google and Microsoft with Docs and Office, respectively. In fact, this second suite that we are talking about for many is the clear benchmark in the sector. All this despite being a paid proposal, unlike many others that are completely free. However, with everything and with it, many users around the world prefer to use this proposal from Microsoft. At this point we could ask ourselves if it really is better than other alternatives like Google Docs. For many the answer to this question is clear, today it is no longer better, let’s see the reasons.
It must be taken into account that the rest of the competing office applications have also been growing and improving over the years. In fact, today the Google Docs suite is spreading greatly in both professional and more domestic environments. There are several reasons for this, as we will see below.
Why Office is no longer better than Google Docs
At this point, the first thing we must take into consideration is the aforementioned section related to the price. And it is that we can benefit from all the functions and advantages that Google Docs offers us by simply opening an account on the platform. This will give us free access to all the office functions of the suite. To all this, we must add that the programs included in the suite cover the needs of most users.
With these we mean that we can edit texts, work with numerical data thanks to the included spreadsheet, or design multimedia presentations. In addition, here we find a specific application for the design of forms.
But that’s not all, since to the price and the available applications, we must add that all its operation is centered on the cloud. This means that we can access all our documents created here, from any PC or mobile device with a connection. In addition, to these free programs we will be able to load files corresponding to the popular Office applications such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint. This means that compatibility is almost total, so we will not have problems when migrating from Microsoft’s proposal to Google’s.
It is true that Office programs have some advanced functions that we do not find in Google. But it is also true that in most cases they are features that we will hardly use, since the basic and usual ones are common, as is the case with the useful templates, for example. Therefore, taking into account aspects such as price, functionality or compatibility, we can say that today Google Docs has little to envy Microsoft’s proposal.
