Easter is just around the corner and it is the first time of the year in which we have the possibility of making a getaway, however small, to get out of the daily routine. If we have already organized our trip and the only thing we are waiting for is for time to pass as soon as possible, first of all, we must consider a very important issue.
Everyone knows that mobile data connections are, together with the screen, the two aspects that consume the most battery. If we want to take advantage of the time during our vacation trip and we do not contemplate the possibility of going to the hotel to rest or charge our mobile, we can use a little trick, a trick that will allow us to save a large amount of battery by reducing the consumption of mobile data. This trick consists of downloading the maps of the area where we are going to move.
By downloading the maps to our mobile of the city where we plan to spend Holy Week, we will considerably lengthen the battery life of our mobile and it will only be used to have coverage together with the GPS of our device to locate us on the map. Both in the Play Store and in the App Store we have at our disposal a large number of map applications, however, regardless of who cares, the best of all is, and will continue to be, Google Maps, an application that, in addition, It allows us to download the maps on our mobile device.
Download maps from Google Maps on our mobile
If we have an Android mobile device, it is not necessary to visit the Play Store to download the application, since it is included natively in all mobile phones that come to the market with Android. If we have an iPhone, the first thing we must do is download the application through the following link.
The operation of both the iOS and Android versions is exactly the same, so the steps that we show you below to download the maps and have them at hand without the need for an Internet connection are exactly the same. Once we have opened the application, we navigate to the location where we are going to spend Easter using the application’s search box or by sliding our finger on the screen. Next, click on the image of our avatar that represents our account and access the Offline Maps option, where we must select Select your own map.
Next, a box of the entire area of the map that we want to download will be displayed. We can make it bigger or smaller by pinching on the screen. The larger it is, the more space it will occupy on our device (at the bottom it will indicate the space it will occupy). Once we have selected the area to download, click on Download and wait for the process to finish.
From this moment on, we don’t have to do anything at all. When we are in that location, Google Maps will read the data we have stored, using only mobile data to display traffic information if necessary.
