Throughout this 2023, operators have been deploying more real 5G connection, that is, a mobile network with 5G SA (Stand Alone) technology. Well, even though everyone knows this term, not all telephone companies in our country market this technology. Right now, there are only two operators in Spain with this network: Movistar and Orange.
To distinguish one connection from another, as happened with 4G and 4G+, operators have marketed this mobile connection with SA technology under the name of 5G+. However, today not all companies in Spain offer this type of network to their customers, since only Orange and Movistar are the ones that have announced the arrival of this coverage for different parts of the country for their users.
The big question that is on the minds of many is… how is it different from 5G? To begin with, the real 5G or 5G SA is the connection that the operators once promised us. Although there is still work ahead, even so, the deployment of this network entails a series of benefits for customers who can enjoy this mobile network.
The move to 5G+
It must be taken into account that the operators Movistar and Orange are the only ones in Spain right now that offer this connection:
-
Orange: this connection is available to 30% of the population in Spain. Although it will add more population throughout the second half of 2023.
-
Movistar: offers this technology in more than 700 municipalities in the country, although it wants to reach around 1,000 by the end of this year.
However, last June, Vodafone launched this same network in Germany, so it is expected that in the not too distant future they will also bet on Spain.
On the other hand, if during the first stage of 5G, telephone companies relied on 4G to quickly deploy this connection, since they used the base stations of this network using DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Share) technology. Instead, 5G SA is a completely independent network from the fourth generation connection, so it offers a number of advantages, just like you can clearly see which ones are different from one connection to another.
Therefore, even though other operators such as Vodafone offer 5G with up to 1 Gbps speed, Orange and Movistar manage to give their customers a speed of up to 1.6 Gbps (it is offered in the 2.5 GHz band). Although to use this network, you need a compatible mobile.
best features
This 5G+ network brings together a series of features in which it improves on the previous 5G (NSA) connection. Therefore, it not only offers advantages over the previous network, but these are its main differences:
- Offers a better mobile signal indoors.
- It has lower latency, so streaming services, gaming, etc., will be better than before.
- The battery of the devices that use this connection will not drop as much. And all thanks to the fact that its energy consumption is lower.
- Allows a greater number of connected devices. This network leaves up to 1 million connections per km2, that is, 10 times more than previous technologies.
- A higher connection speed.
