Obviously no one makes a presence on social networks for the love of art. Whether on YouTube or Twitch, as on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, everyone is looking to capitalize on their popularity and earn a few bucks in any way possible, usually by advertising brands that attract attention. Elon Musk’s social network has decided to start rewarding its most relevant and active users to prevent them from going to other social networks. And, for this, it has begun to pay them to create content within their network.
Twitter’s revenue sharing program has been rumored for quite some time, dating back to February of this year. And it is that, since Elon Musk took the reins of the social network, the tycoon seeks not only to make it profitable, but also to secure the most relevant users of it. However, this reward system never quite came. Until today.
With the threat of Threads hotter than ever, a few hours ago, some content creators have shared on networks how they have been able to earn tens of thousands of dollars thanks to the content they have shared on the social network. This money comes to them through a payment to the Stripe account connected to the social network. And, furthermore, an important detail is that the first payments will be cumulative, that is, all the money generated since the program was announced in February until today will be taken into account.
To be eligible for this rewards service, users must be subscribed to Twitter Blue, have a Stripe account for payments, and their tweets must have impressions greater than 5 million each month in the last 3 months. Some accounts, such as the Internet Hall Of Fame (@InternetH0F) have already received a payment of more than $107,000 for this profit sharing.
It is not very well known how this distribution of content works, but a YouTuber, who claims to have received a surprise payment of $10,000, claims to have had a total of 433 million impressions of his tweets within the established period.
We don’t know if it will be enough to retain content creators and prevent them from leaving Twitter and going to Threads or not. But, in total, in this first wave of rewards Elon Musk has a budget of 5 million dollars to distribute. And he will continue like this in the coming months.
At the moment, Twitter payments are not in Spain
At the moment, this new reward system is only available in the United States. In Spain, and other European countries, we do not have this new reward system available. It is more than likely that, sooner or later, Elon Musk’s social network will end up bringing its rewards system to the European Union, as long as it can get the go-ahead from all the regulators.
Of course, as we can see, the requirements are not exactly low, and if we want to get our rewards we will have to give everything within the social network. We will see if, finally, it serves to gain the loyalty of its users and how Meta responds to this movement.
