Surely on many occasions you have found yourself in the situation that a song sounds familiar to you, but you do not know its author or its title. Right now we can use some alternatives in the form of applications and platforms that help us, such as the popular Shazam.

This is an application that has been with us for many years and that we use, for example, from our mobile phones to recognize a song that is playing at that moment. This is something that most of us have done on many occasions and that the popular streaming website, YouTube, will now allow us to do. It is true that here we are referring to a website that is especially focused on videos, but that we also use on many occasions to listen to music.

All this to a large extent thanks to the enormous amount of content of all kinds that it provides us by default and free of charge. Well, we are telling you all this because Google is currently beginning to test a new function for YouTube focused precisely on these tasks that we are discussing. Despite the powerful search engine that integrates this video streaming service, if we do not know the title or author of the song we are looking for, it will be of little use.

But we have good news, and that is that Google is working on a function that will allow us to locate music tracks directly on YouTube just by humming the song. This is an experiment that is being launched for certain users of the video platform’s mobile application for Android and that is gradually spreading. As they let us glimpse from the search giant, this function will compete directly with the popular Shazam.

How the new YouTube experiment to find songs works

As we told you, just by humming the song that we want to locate on the streaming portal, the new function should recognize it. In addition, Google itself tells us that the feature we are talking about is capable of identifying musical themes in just 3 seconds. But not only that, since once the identification as such has been carried out, YouTube will also propose other similar musical themes among the many found on the platform.

Among the results that will appear on the screen we can find both official music videos and even short videos in which that musical theme is used. At the same time, the platform wants to go one step further and we will also have the possibility of locating music from a recording that we have made. For example, if we record that song with our mobile phone and play it back, or it is simply playing where we are, YouTube will also be able to identify it.

It is true that we can already do something similar through the search giant’s assistant, so it is easy to deduce that the technology to be used here will be the same. However, this is a music localization process that we can carry out directly from an application as widely used as YouTube.
