At Google offices they are looking for ways that will allow them to gain more users in terms of the expansion of Google Chat. The application remains a priority for the company and the introduction of a new function inspired by WhatsApp could be key to fighting it. But will it be enough to give you that boost you need?
Google Chat needs new features and more functions that allow the application to arouse the interest of users who do not see it as a good choice. The next one they are going to implement is inspired by WhatsApp and, if it is well received, it will also allow them to have a more solid proposal to compete with professional tools like Slack.
The Announcements system arrives
What Google Chat is going to try in this case is a new approach to broadcast messages. This is the messaging used in WhatsApp channels, where a large number of users are concentrated, but where there is control over who can communicate. This system is very logical in day-to-day corporate life because it prevents truly crazy message exchanges from being generated.
Thus, in these groups only certain people have the capacity to send messages, while the rest are only recipients of them. In this way, the Google application will finally give more depth to the conversations that take place and will allow work groups to be a little more organized.
Betting on the professional sector
Perhaps what is failing Google Chat the most is that it cannot find its place and its identity. The application began being limited to professional users and then Google decided to bring it to the general public so that anyone could download it. They dream of matching WhatsApp in its user-to-user approach and competing with Slack in its professional-to-professional philosophy, but in the end they fail to make a name for themselves in either category.
With this novelty they once again focus on the professional market, although it is clear that it will be a welcome novelty. Right now, Google Chat offers users the opportunity to form collaborative groups that are designed for professionals. It is a good resource, since it has an organization system that allows you to organize conversations in an orderly manner and also includes the possibility of attaching files and performing other similar tasks.
But, until Announcements is released, there is no exact space in which all members of a group can be mere listeners except for those chosen. This means that there is a lack of a resource that many professionals and companies need to keep their team organized or informed about certain aspects. With the arrival of Announcements that will change and, from that moment on, users will be able to choose whether they want a group to be collaborative or the new type.

For now there is no information to know. For example, it is not confirmed, because the leak that has been carried out has not provided much data, whether these Google Chat spaces may be managed by one person or by several. Perhaps, for example, only their creator has the opportunity to manage them and send the comments and messages that other users will receive. However, if this is the case, it is obvious that it would be an incomplete function compared to the proposal made by other tools.
If Google Chat wants to continue reducing distances with WhatsApp, Slack, Telegram, Discord and many other apps that have similar systems, it is going to have to put all its effort into action. So it is very possible that, about Announcements, there is much more to say than what has been discovered. We will continue to pay attention to see what Google comes up with.
