Many of you know the different versions of Windows that have been with us over the last few years. In addition, each one has several editions, the most common are those called Home and Pro.

Depending on the type of use we are going to make of the Microsoft operating system, we can opt for one edition or another. Right now we are focusing on Windows 10 and Windows 11, where the most common are the aforementioned Home and Pro. The second offers us some additional functions focused on more business and professional use, as its name suggests.

However, when migrating from one edition to another, we are forced to perform a clean installation of the operating system. But now this is something we can maybe save on. The first thing we should keep in mind is that the source code for Windows Out of Box Experience, also known as OOBE, was recently leaked revealing some interesting details.

Here you could see some very interesting tricks related to the implementation of the operating system itself on our computers. In fact, experts made a discovery that was initially and apparently secret, for example to switch between different editions of Windows, but it is still mandatory to do a clean installation.

It is for this reason that a free and open source unofficial script has now been released to try to solve this inconvenience for many. It was created by a user of the GitHub platform and is made up of a .bat batch file. This allows us to change editions of Windows as if it were an update. All this instead of being forced to perform a clean installation of your Windows 10 or 11.

How to change Windows edition, faster

To begin with, we will tell you that the open source script is called In-Place_Upgrade Helper. Its main objective is to help us change editions of Windows without having to do a clean installation of the operating system. This is something that can be extended to the two versions that still receive official support from the software giant.

To access this small piece of software that we are talking about, all you have to do is connect to this link from the browser. Once here we can download a file called Inplace_Upgrade_Helper.bat, either in English or German.

Windows edition script

In order to achieve the objective we are looking for, we must place the aforementioned .bat file that is part of the compressed file we downloaded, next to the setup.exe file from the Windows installation in the ISO image. Obviously, we carry out this process before running the installation executable.

For example, this will be of enormous help to us for something as common as going from the Home to the Pro edition of Windows in a much faster and more effective way. Of course, we must take into consideration that the batch file that we download uses the official pre-installation keys, so we need them for the process.

Furthermore, once it starts up, it gives us the possibility to select the edition we want to change to: Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, Enterprise, etc.
