Finding the optimal balance between the temperatures of our system and the noise of new fans is very important. The default curves for the fans are far from perfect. They are generalized parameters that do not have to adapt to the reality of a system. Correcting this is simple, it can be done with fan control software, like the ones we will present to you below.
There are many factors that make predefined fan curves inefficient. Aspects such as the air flow offered by our chassis or the ambient temperature affect a lot. Predefined parameters are usually based on very specific conditions that rarely coincide with those of the end user.
We have different tools available that can help us create custom fan curves. Adjusting the fan curve to obtain the best experience is not complicated, but it usually requires different tweaks. We will see the best applications for fan management.
AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin
Without a doubt, AMD has the best software of all the processor and graphics card manufacturers. This tool allows you to make a multitude of adjustments, including customizing the fan curve. It allows us to use predetermined profiles and also make all the adjustments we want based on the temperature of the components.
The “Advanced Control” and “Fine Tuning Controls” options allow adjustment of the curve using P-States. We can establish a percentage of fan operation according to a certain temperature. It allows us to adjust up to five adjustment levels depending on the load.
ASUS Armor Crate
Let’s now go to one of the largest manufacturers of motherboards and laptops on the market. ASUS offers Armory Crate software that allows you to make many adjustments and configurations, including setting custom fan curves. This software is simple and intuitive and also allows you to create different profiles for different situations. By default, ASUS offers us four profiles, such as Windows, Silent, Performance and Turbo.
Windows mode leaves the operating system complete freedom to adjust the fans. Then, Silent mode places limitations on operating speeds, which will hinder performance. Performance mode strikes a balance between the best possible performance and a reduced noise level. Finally, Turbo mode allows the fans to run freely so that the system can deliver the maximum possible performance.
Corsair iCUE
This is one of the largest peripheral manufacturers and has a large number of cooling solutions. Corsair offers us fans, heatsinks and liquid cooling systems that we can adjust using the company’s proprietary software.
Using the iCUE software we can create custom curves for the fans integrated into the case and also the fans of the cooling systems. Note that this adjustment is only possible for the company’s systems, it is not valid for products from other manufacturers.
Gigabyte Control Center
Software also from another major manufacturer of motherboards and laptops. Gigabyte offers a fairly complete tool that allows users, among others, to manage fans. It is not as simple and intuitive as other applications, but it is equally complete.
This tool allows us to create different profiles for different situations or needs that we have. It is quite complete and allows us to make great fan rotation adjustments depending on the load level. Of course, all fans must be connected directly to the motherboard.
Fan Control
Application highly rated by users, as it has a modern and simple interface. FanControl is an open source and completely free tool. It offers support for a large number of temperature sensors, as well as a wide variety of graphs and curves.
A great aspect of this application is the combination of custom curves with those predefined by the motherboard. As it offers access to all the sensors in the system, we will have a great level of adjustment to obtain the best possible performance. Not only does it allow you to adjust the heatsink and motherboard fans, it also allows you to adjust the curves of the graphics card fans.
