Digi customers will now be able to use mobile data to browse the internet in more countries, thereby no longer having to rely on a Wi-Fi hotspot to use the Internet on their mobile when travelling.
The Romanian operator has managed to introduce seven new regions into its catalogue of roaming countries, so that its customers can use their mobile data when they are there, and not be dependent on Wi-Fi zones to stay connected.
However, these new countries are not included in the European roaming buffer, so activating mobile data there will have a cost. However, it is always positive to be able to use it in case of an emergency or if we see it necessary for whatever reason.
These are the seven new countries in which you can now also browse roaming with Digi, along with the price of each (1) gigabyte of data:
- Andorra, 15 euros per gigabyte
- Argentina, 9 euros per gigabyte
- Qatar, 2 euros per gigabyte
- Israel, 1.5 euros per gigabyte
- Moldova, 1.5 euros per gigabyte
- Montenegro, 2 euros per gigabyte
- Paraguay, 9 euros per gigabyte
As we can see, some of these destinations, especially Andorra, Argentina and Paraguay, have a fairly high price per gigabyte, so using mobile data in these countries with Digi roaming is not going to be the ideal option. However, it will be useful in case any setback forces you to make a call via WhatsApp or check something on the Internet. You can also send SMS or make calls from these countries, but remember that they will also be more expensive.
Outside zone 1
None of these countries are part of Digi’s European roaming zone 1, and that is why the prices are so high. Within zone 1, we remind you, roaming will be completely free, respecting the usual limits of our rate.
These countries are also outside of Zone 1 for many other operators. For example, Andorra, Israel, Moldova, Argentina and Paraguay are part of Vodafone’s Zone 2, while Montenegro is part of Zone 6.
Roaming price reduction
This news comes a week after we learned that Digi had lowered roaming prices for another series of countries also excluded from zone 1. Specifically, the price of a gigabyte in the United States, Switzerland, Kuwait, Morocco, North Macedonia or Serbia was previously 6 or 2.5 euros depending on the case. Now, however, a GB costs only 1.50 euros.
GB roaming prices have also been reduced for Turkey, Australia and Tunisia, where they now cost just 2 euros, and for Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, where they now cost 3 and 9 euros respectively.
With the addition of new destinations with roaming availability, in parallel with the price reduction in these eleven destinations in total, Digi continues unstoppable in its strategy to be a leading operator in the low-cost segment. These new prices are valid for both mobile-only rates and mobile and fibre rates, and also for prepaid customers.
