SkyShowtime’s future could be in the hands of its subscribers

SkyShowtime is one of the most interesting streaming platforms, with a more varied catalogue and a more attractive price, but it is also an irregular service in several aspects. Its future, however, we now discover could be conditioned by its subscribers. And this is something that, at the very least, should be taken into account.

From what we’ve seen in recent months, SkyShowtime makes very good decisions and combines them with other decisions that are completely opposite. It makes its users happy and angry in a similar way and that prevents it from taking the next step in its growth. There is talk about an uncertain future regarding what could happen with Paramount+ abroad, but that is not the topic we are going to talk about now. The truth is that we are concentrating on SkyShowtime Spain, which, after all, is what interests us.

The voice of the users

A few days ago, we received an email from SkyShowtime asking for our opinion, as subscribers, regarding the platform. It is a survey that comes with the message “We would like to know what you think!” and that, as they explain in the email, can help define the future of the platform.

The service mentions in the email that they value the ideas and comments of users and that they take them into account to develop their service and improve the platform. They assure that “your opinion is fundamental”, because they are interested in your preferences or your needs. For this reason, they send this survey with which they want to delve deeper into your opinion so that, from now on, they can make decisions that alter the platform in such a way that they have the capacity to satisfy the greatest possible number of users.

What do they ask?

After indicating our age, which is very useful for defining the specific target of each survey, the first question we find is related to what we like to watch. The list of categories is huge, since SkyShowtime has not wanted to limit itself to the usual genres. Thus, options such as “Superheroes”, “Award ceremonies”, “Football matches”, “Korean dramas”, “Anime” (specifying that they refer to Japanese series) or soap operas are included, to mention just a few of the many possibilities.

Then there are a series of questions in which we are asked to give more or less importance to certain aspects, such as whether we use streaming to put something on in the background while we do other things. They also want to know if we watch streaming programs that we like in private and whose passion for them we do not publicly acknowledge. Other aspects to consider include: whether we look for programs to escape into other worlds, something that can entertain the family, something to disconnect or feel good watching something that is familiar to us. The next step is to choose the three reasons why we decide to watch a series or a film, giving very varied options, such as that it is realistic, that it makes us laugh, that it strengthens the relationship with our loved ones or that it is something popular that everyone talks about. With this, SkyShowtime wants to fine-tune the tone of the content that interests users and thus be able to better invest its resources.

Other questions delve into when and how we watch TV. There are a lot of interesting topics that are raised that will help the platform get to know users better, and they even want to know how much time you watch TV per week. Once you answer that question, you’ll need to divide your time into the types of services you use to watch TV, whether it’s pay TV services or, for example, streaming.

Continuing with the survey, which is longer than you might imagine, we are also asked about the importance we give to watching subtitled or dubbed content. At this point we can give our opinion on the service that the platform is providing, indicating whether we are satisfied or dissatisfied to varying degrees. At the end we will answer other questions, we will say what made us start using SkyShowtime and we will be able to manually enter titles of series or films that we want to see on the platform.

There are several things that can be deduced from this. The first is that SkyShowtime is continuing to refine its proposal with the intention of achieving a service that reaches the largest number of people. On the other hand, it is clear that they want to be clearer about which content categories they should favour and are even considering opening up to other possibilities, such as sports. And, finally, we are particularly interested in everything related to subtitled or dubbed content, perhaps indicating that the service is considering certain possibilities for the future. Perhaps, who knows, they are thinking of increasing their catalogue based on subtitled productions that would be much cheaper than if they had to dub them. In any case, we will have to wait for the results of this survey to come into effect directly on the platform.
