DAZN turns the wheel in France by making the decision to restructure its prices and launching a new rate with which users will be able to watch football for only 10 euros. In addition, it modifies its rates and even launches a unique special price for the remainder of the current season.
Last year 2024 left some worrying data on French lands. The subscription to watch football had lost steam and was not achieving the numbers that would have been expected. DAZN, which took over the rights with a contract until 2029, is trying to save the furniture by changing policy. And it does so with, as we say, a radical change in its rates.
The 10 euro rate
DAZN arrived in France last summer and did so trying to revolutionize French football by taking over from Canal+ and giving users access to the best football in Ligue 1. But the plans have not gone as well as could have been expected. The streaming platform would not have had the impact that was thought and, according to experts, it could even end its agreement with the competition before 2029, at least if records do not improve. The main reason is that, under contract, if the threshold of 1.5 million subscribers is not reached, both DAZN and Ligue 1 will have the possibility of terminating the agreement. But, before this supposed situation can occur in December 2025, DAZN has a plan to try to improve user numbers.
Among other things, Le Parisien talks about the launch of that interesting rate of 10 euros for users who are under 26 years of age. This proposal will be available from the month of February and will not only cover the current season, but will also be available next year 2026. The 10 euro initiative will not have any commitment to permanence and has the objective of helping the public young person find a motivation to pay for football on a monthly basis.
The rest of the rates
Although young people will pay 10 euros, other users will have to make a payment of 19.99 euros. This is a rate that DAZN France has reached after going around many times, launching all kinds of promotions and seeing how the cost of 29.99 euros that it had previously did not catch on with users. Many football lovers in France, who at this point are not very attracted to the idea of subscribing to DAZN, claim that the situation would have been different if the platform had started with a lower price. A range of between 15 and 20 euros is what many French people say they would have paid, but when they arrived with a higher price and launched that endless wave of offers, there have been many who have felt rejection.
So that football fans can develop that interest that DAZN is looking for, the platform is launching the mid-season pass. It has a single price of 69 euros and will be available on DAZN France until February 3. With this initiative, what DAZN seeks is for a greater number of users to identify with the platform and get used to using it to watch football.
With this same objective, DAZN France has also announced the premiere of a new type of more immersive coverage that will provide almost 10 hours of football broadcasting around the matches. It will take place on Sundays, will bring together between two and three matches and will begin at 3:00 p.m. to end with the outcome of the last match at 9:00 p.m. On the other hand, DAZN also comments that they have taken note of the requests of French fans and have made the decision to guarantee that all matches will be covered by three commentators.
Could something similar be expected in Spain? In our country, DAZN already offers a 19.99 euro plan, so, in that sense, there is not much to wait for. What could be interesting would be the youth discount as a way of attracting an audience that may not be used to it and who may develop an interest in watching football thanks to the reduced price. But, in any case, the situation of DAZN Spain is much more positive than that of its French subsidiary, so it is understandable that both versions of the service do not follow the same path.
