The different cloud storage services that some technology companies now offer us have become essential for many. They are an excellent alternative to local storage on our desktop and mobile computers.

These remote services allow us to save a good amount of gigabytes in order to free up a hard drive, for example on our computers. Furthermore, one of the great advantages that we find here is that a good part of these companies offer us a free option. This means that we can benefit from a certain space on remote servers without paying a single euro.

From there and to achieve more storage space, that is when we will have to start paying. One of the most popular alternatives of this type is offered by Microsoft with its storage platform known as OneDrive. At the moment, the company, as part of its Microsoft 365 subscription, does not allow us to have more than 2 TB of storage for each account.

Basically, this means that if we use OneDrive intensively, this amount of space can sometimes fall short. Keep in mind that OneDrive adapts perfectly to Windows, and for example many make complete copies of the operating system and its applications here. Hence, for many, those 2 TB are not enough at the moment. But for all those who need a greater amount of teras, we have good news to tell you.

We tell you all this because the software giant Microsoft will soon allow us to have up to five times more storage space in this online service.

So you can get up to 10 TB in OneDrive

This is something we already know thanks to the announcement that was made just focused precisely on OneDrive. In it, the company presented the latest news about its cloud storage service. Additionally, it announced its future plans to expand the maximum storage limit on the platform.

All this means that at the end of this year, users of the service itself will be able to expand their cloud storage to 5 TB or even reach 10 TB. As you can imagine, this is a movement that Microsoft is carrying out to adapt to the current times. Users increasingly need more space, both locally and remotely.

Hence, they want to lend a hand to OneDrive regulars by launching new storage levels of 5 and 10 TB, all beyond the current limit of 2 TB. This maximum capacity is currently available for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family customers. But it seems that things will change significantly at the end of this year, 2024.

That has been the main announcement, although at the moment not much more is known about future OneDrive update options. On the other hand, we will tell you that Microsoft does not seem willing to update the free tier, which still offers a scant 5 GB of storage. Now we just have to wait to know the functional and economic conditions of these 2 new plans that will undoubtedly be extremely useful for many.
