We are going to explain the different methods that exist to fill in the date automatically in an Excel sheet.
The basic function (to define it in some way) is a spreadsheet focused on making calculations, graphs and tables, mainly. It has a large number of different formulas that allow you to carry out all types of operations, comparisons and obtaining data.
You should know that there is even an Excel championship where you compete to solve a problem using this software in the shortest amount of time. There is even a stream of users who use this spreadsheet to create works of art.
Fill in the date in an Excel sheet easily
Something that we may need is to fill in a column with the date to keep track of sales, movements, operations or whatever. You can enter the data manually, but there are two easy ways to fill in the chosen cells.
For both cases it will always be necessary that you fill in the first cell of the sheet with the date. Then, you can fill in the rest of the Excel cells automatically. Regardless of which method you use, the result will be the same.
Use the fill handler
The easiest way is to use the fill handler. This is a simple function that allows you to drag a condition and fill the rest of the cells. For this function we only have to fill in the first cell with the desired date.
You will see that a fairly discreet green square appears in the lower right corner of the cell. If we stand on this point we will see that the cursor changes from a perfect white cross with leftovers to a cross made up of two lines. We press and without stopping pressing, we drag down, up or to the sides, depending on what interests us.
Once dragged to the last desired cell, we release and the dates will be filled in automatically. You will see that these dates are consecutive. As a small tip, you can add a time, if you want, the date will vary in the same way, but the time will remain the same.
Fill dates using the Fill command
The fill command has a similar format, but is a little simpler. As it cannot be otherwise, the first action we must perform is select the cell and write the date. Up to this point, we understand that there is reason for the failure.
Once the date is written in the cell, we must select it. We must also select those adjacent cells where the information will appear.
While the cell is highlighted, we must go to the Excel options bar, at the top. We have to click on the “start” option. Now, we look at the “Editing” section, click on “Fill” and then on “Series”.
Within the “Series” section we must select a “Date unit” option. We can choose between day, week, month and year. Once we have checked the corresponding box, we can now click “Accept”. You simply have to go back to the Excel sheet and check that the cells have been filled.
