The range of products that Microsoft offers us, both at a personal and business level, is enormous. One of its best-known solutions is the operating system present on most desktop computers. The company has now just announced the arrival of Windows Server 2025, the latest version of its system for servers
Many companies around the globe were waiting for the arrival of this new version that will be available starting next November 1, 2024. However, in these same lines we are going to talk to you about its main new features.
It is important to keep in mind that in January of this same year, the company released the first version of Windows Server 2025 for Insider users. The new version introduced hotpatching, and next-generation Active Directory functionality. Additionally, it introduced alternative SMB ports over QUIC that allow the default port to be changed to any other.
Say that Windows Server is available through two main channels: the Long Term Service Channel or LTSC with Windows Server 2025, and the Annual Channel linked to Windows Server with version 23H2.
What’s new in Windows Server 2025
The first thing we must take into consideration is that this new version of Windows for servers offers important advances in all areas for Hyper-V. Here we find improved GPU integration or a software-defined storage system. Likewise, we will have networks defined by clusters to facilitate and improve their use.
As Microsoft itself informs us, these improvements make Windows Server 2025 an excellent option for companies looking for an advanced virtualization solution.
In turn, all of this will help them take advantage of AI and machine learning, maintaining high performance and scalability in their equipment. The latest version of Windows Server comes with a long list of new features, as we show you below.
Hotpatching enabled by Azure. Users operating in the cloud will have more modern security benefits such as automatic updates and backups.
NVMe storage performance. On identical systems, Windows Server 2025 offers up to 60% more storage performance than Windows Server 2022.
Block cloning support. Dev Drive uses the ReFS file system format, so support for block cloning provides significant performance benefits when copying files.
New features and capabilities of Active Directory.
Credential protection. In the new version, this function is activated by default to block credential theft attacks.
More security in SMB server messaging services. Windows Server 2025 includes SMB over QUIC to enable secure access to file shares over the Internet.
Faster networks. This feature simplifies the management of single root virtualization for virtual machines to reduce latency.
DTrace tool. Windows Server 2025 comes equipped with DTrace as a native tool. It is a command-line utility that allows you to monitor and troubleshoot system performance in real time.
Security enclaves based on virtualization. They are designed to help applications protect themselves, eliminating the need to trust administrators.
To finish we will tell you that Windows Server 2025 will reach the end of support date on October 10, 2029. Those who want to try the new version of the system can use the free 180-day trial version of the Microsoft Evaluation Center, all from this link.
