As the weeks go by, we find different artificial intelligence proposals on a greater number of platforms and programs. Microsoft is betting heavily on this technology, as it constantly demonstrates.
In fact, at this point we can say that the software giant was serious when it stated that it was going to introduce AI into all of its applications and services. The main objective of all this is to help us increase our productivity.
Next we are going to talk about an application from the company itself that will also have complete integration of ChatGPT and Copilot, we are talking about Windows Terminal. This is a software solution that is already available for Windows 11 and Windows 10. In case you don’t know, Windows Terminal is the tool integrated into the operating system that works based on commands, just as it once did with the MS-DOS system. .
Microsoft first commented on the integration of AI in Windows Terminal last September. Now it has made it a reality in an update for Windows Terminal in its Canary version. As you can imagine, this allows us to chat with artificial intelligence directly from the Windows Terminal. Obviously, all of this will be extremely useful to us, for example, when asking questions about certain commands. Likewise, it will help us fix errors when we work with them in this integrated tool.
Of course, first of all we must take into consideration that to benefit from this artificial intelligence in the Windows command line, we will have to pay. It is not a feature that Microsoft offers for free.
How AI works in Windows Terminal
It is important to keep in mind that this is an AI that we can only use with the GitHub Copilot API key, Azure OpenAI or the OpenAI API itself. Thus, once we have connected Terminal Chat to an AI service, when we type a question in the tool window, it automatically sends the request to the artificial intelligence.
The platform itself processes the query and offers a quick suggestion, as usually happens in other chatbots. Regarding privacy, Microsoft ensures that it does not save our chat history. It is also important to know that this integration we are talking about is designed to work with various shells. This includes the Command Prompt window, PowerShell, WSL Ubuntu, Azure Cloud Shell, and more.
In order to put AI into operation in Windows Terminal, we only have to open the configuration of Microsoft’s own tool. After that, we select the Terminal Chat tab and choose an AI service provider between GitHub, Copilot, Azure OpenAI and OpenAI.
