Over time and due to certain applications, our mobile phones have become almost essential devices for many. For example, we have the possibility of paying in all types of businesses or having our license, driving from here, saving us from having to carry our wallet with us.
However, until now we did not have the possibility of accessing other extremely important documents through an official application on our mobile devices. As you can imagine, we are referring to the DNI or National Identity Document, as well as the passport.
As with the application that the DGT presents to us to carry our driving license or the technical data sheet of our vehicle on our mobile, we will soon also be able to have these important personal documents, among others. We are going to achieve a good part of all this thanks to the application called digital wallet that the European Union is currently preparing. As we have been informed for some time, it is expected to be fully ready within a few months.
It is expected that the aforementioned digital wallet, in addition to allowing us to carry our ID on our mobile phone, will offer us other very important elements. Here we are referring to the passport, the driving license, our medical card and much more. In fact, we will have the possibility of booking plane tickets or making an appointment with the corresponding doctor.
In short, what the European Union wants is for us to carry a good part of the official documentation that we may need at any time, all in the same mobile application. As you can imagine, this digital wallet application will allow us, in most cases, to leave our wallet at home. This way we avoid the risk of losing or having important documentation stolen in certain circumstances.
When will the digital wallet be available
Technology continues to advance in multiple ways, and the mobile phone has become the nerve center for a multitude of elements. Hence precisely one of the reasons for the so-called digital wallet prepared by the EU. This is an application that will become very important for most and that aims to unify most of our credentials that we will need, on this device.
Obviously, one of the advantages that the mobile phone offers us is that we carry it with us almost constantly. This will prevent us from always having to carry a multitude of important documentation in its physical and official version. And losing your wallet with all this in most cases is a serious inconvenience. However, on the mobile phone all this information will be, as it could not be otherwise, very protected against loss or theft of the terminal.
But with everything and with this, we must take into consideration that there are still a few months until we can enjoy it. All to benefit from the advantages of this European Union digital wallet. And its launch and final staging is scheduled for next year 2026, for which there is still some time left.
