Android Auto has become essential for driving for many. Thanks to it, drivers can send voice commands to open applications, answer calls or write while driving. However, a bug is causing the car operating system to run slower than normal.
Google Assistant allows users to operate Android Auto without taking their eyes off the road. This system can even be used to send messages to someone without taking your hands off the wheel. However, its latest update is causing problems.
Recently, we learned that the software was rewarding the use of Google Maps over other similar apps like Waze. Now, a Reddit user has complained that he reads a message twice before sending it, something that delays action.

Messages take time to send with Android Auto
Since Android Auto came into our lives, the procedure for sending messages has always been the same. First, you request using a voice command that you want to send a message to a specific contact, and then the Assistant transcribes it to text and reads it once.
By saying the message out loud, the driver can confirm the delivery or correct it. In this way, Google makes sure that what has been understood and transcribed is correct.
Lately, the process has changed. As some users have been able to detect, the Google Assistant reads the message the first time and, after confirmation from the driver, reads it again.
With the modification, sending messages through Android Auto is considerably slowed down. This repetition has no reason and not even all users have been enabled, so it could be a system error.
At the moment, the company has not provided any solution. Therefore, drivers will be required to listen to your message twice before it is sent.
According to the Reddit user, the error does not occur if what you want is to respond to another message. That is, it only happens if you want to send a new message.
Although the failure is not a big problem, it can be annoying if you are in a hurry to send a message. The extra seconds of waiting can be frustrating. However, we will have to wait for Google to fix it because there is no trick to avoid the situation.
How to check if the Android Auto failure affects you?
Previously, we have mentioned that the Android Auto double reading issue does not affect everyone. If you use this operating system in your car, there is a very simple way to know if it is harmful to you: try sending a message.
If you usually send messages with Android Auto hands-free, you may already know if it fails or not. However, if you tend to use it from time to time and were unaware that an error had spread, you may be interested in finding out if it affects you before you start driving.
The step by step to send a message is very simple and most likely you already know how to do it. Below, we explain the process in case you have forgotten:
- With Android Auto on, select the on-screen microphone or say ‘Hey Google’ out loud.
- Next, you must say ‘send a text message to’ + the contact or phone number you want to speak to. In this first command, you can request it to be through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS…
- Then, Google Assistant will ask you to say the message you want to send. Do it.
- Finally, Android Auto will repeat the message to check that it has understood correctly. You will have to decide between ‘Send’, ‘Modify the message’ or ‘Cancel’.
If the Android Auto double read bug has affected you, the message will be read aloud again once confirmed. But if you’re lucky, the text will be sent automatically.
