It doesn’t usually happen, but this year the launch of the new version of Android was delayed until the third quarter of the year. In reality, mobile phones have practically just started updating a few days ago, so it is still really fresh. This would suggest that, to make room for Android 15, the launch of Android 16 would remain in the third quarter. However, it will not be like that.
Launched sooner than expected
Google has released information about what awaits users and developers in the future of Android and has mentioned that in 2025, there will be two Android releases. One of them will be the big and main one, which will arrive in the second quarter of the year to maintain the previous tradition. The other launch will be smaller and complementary, and its arrival is planned for the fourth quarter of the year. Google says that they have made this decision because they want to regain alignment with their usual calendar and with the launch of new devices equipped with their operating system. They seek to ensure that, in this way, a greater number of terminals receive the new version quickly.
Of course, for the public it is good news, since it will mean enjoying Android 16 sooner than expected. “So little time” will have passed that it is possible that you have not even gotten used to the new features of Android 15 when you already have those of Android 16 knocking on your door.
Manufacturers will appreciate it
Taking into account that a large number of brands have the habit of putting their new mobile phones on sale in the third quarter of the year, the fact that Android 16 is already available in the second quarter will be a very positive thing. This will mean that the mobile phones, when they reach the stores, will already be preloaded with the most current version of Android, which is a great advantage at all levels. This will prevent, as has happened this year, new terminals that arrive in stores without having the latest Android.
The launch of Android 16, a version of the system codenamed Baklava, will introduce important new features, additions and changes. Google has good plans to make the move from Android 15 to Android 16 justified and, as usual, surprise users with new features. For its part, the second version, which may arrive under the name Android 16.1, will simply make adjustments, but Google assures that it will not include any type of transcendental change at the functional level. Yes, there will be an optimization so that the system works better, bugs will be eliminated and there will be other adjustments, but everything will be secondary.
Due to the way the calendar is moving forward, users who are used to testing development versions should not take too long to encounter Android 16.
