Have you ever encountered audio that is muted when you didn’t leave it that way? You’re playing a song or video and even though the volume is at 100%, it sounds very low? Sound issues are quite common in Windows 11, and in many cases, they’re not directly associated with an operating system update.

Solving this problem does not require much effort, just a set of relatively simple actions. First, we will give you some preliminary actions that may (or may not) solve the problem. If these actions do not correct the problem, then you will need to follow a process that is simple.

Fix Low Volume Issue in Windows 11

You may have started your computer, opened Spotify or a YouTube video and you can’t hear anything. You’ve probably checked that the audio on these platforms’ players is fine. Then, you’ve gone to the Windows volume and it’s at 100% or something, but you can’t hear anything or it’s very low.

Obviously, something is not working as it should. Before we get into more complicated processes, we should try the following actions:

  • Check that you have not accidentally muted the audio by pressing the “F5” key.
  • We check that we have not muted or lowered the audio of the audio player. This is done like this:
    • Right click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar.
    • Now, tap on “Open Volume Mixer”.
    • Check that all are somewhat, that none are below the system volume bar.
  • Make sure your Windows volume is set to 100%.
  • Restart your computer to verify that it is not a problem that has arisen by chance.

After these simple checks, if the problem persists, we will have to take other actions. You may be thinking of using the “Get help” function in Windows 11, but it will not help.

Before continuing, let’s verify that it is not a problem with the “Device Manager”. Specifically, let’s check that the audio components are installed and the driver is the most recent. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. We have to right click on the Windows icon.
  2. Within the drop-down menu, we must go to the “Device Manager” option.
  3. Click on “Audio inputs and outputs”.
  4. We verify that all the devices are there.
  5. We right-click on them and in the menu that opens, we click on “Update driver”.

We will follow the steps and if it does not find a new driver, it does not matter, it means that we have the latest one installed. There are not always new audio drivers available.

The next step is to check the Windows audio device settings. Usually, this is where we will find the problem and can fix it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Windows 11 audio speaker icon located in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.
  2. Now, we need to click on the “Sound Settings” option
  3. In the new window, scroll down until you find the “All sound devices” option.
  4. A list will appear with the ones we have and which one is selected. If we have several, we will verify that the audio is being output through the speakers and not through another of the sound devices.
  5. We must enter the one we have selected and go down until we find “Audio Enhancements”.
  6. Next, we click to change the “Default device effects” setting and change it to “Disable”.

This should have fixed the issue now. The “Audio Enhancements” feature is enabled natively in Windows 11, but it sometimes crashes for unknown reasons.
