The end of summer is approaching and everyone is once again asking the same question: when does the time change? Something that is repeated both when the heat and the cold are approaching. Fortunately, it is possible that in a while the change to winter or summer time will not be repeated again, until then, we will have to continue changing from 03:00 hours to 02:00 hours or vice versa.
When the clock changes is something everyone wonders when the cold or hot weather is approaching. And although it may have an expiry date as explained in the BOE, we will still have to change the clocks in a few weeks.
When the time changes
Every year in Spain we all have to change the clock twice. The first time is to have summer time and the second time is when it is time to have winter time. Depending on which time it is, we have to move our clocks forward or back. But let’s get to the important thing, which is to know when it is time to adjust the time for this coming winter.
It will be in the early hours of October 26-27 when you will have to change the time on your clocks again this 2024. Therefore, during that early morning remember that 3:00 a.m. will be 2:00 a.m. So there is good news for everyone who wants to rest an extra hour during that night. Although, it should be noted that, in this case, you will actually be recovering that hour that was already lost during the spring, as happens every year due to daylight saving time.
Changing time has an expiration date
It was more than 100 years ago when the clock was changed for the first time in Spain. However, in 1974, this practice was definitively established for the Spanish people. Since then, every year our clocks have to be moved forward or backward by one hour. However, in a while this rule will finally be eliminated, at least that is what the BOE explains.
There is still quite a bit of confusion about this. However, 2026 is the date we should mark on our calendars to say goodbye to the time change forever. Since it is the year that, for the moment, is more than confirmed that the Spanish will not have to play with the time again. If so, in 2027 it is certain that no one should worry again about the change to winter or summer time.
In addition, this is a practice that other European countries are also thinking of abandoning, as they apply the winter time change. And although nothing is definitively set in stone, we are closer than ever to not changing the hours on our devices again.
It is not always put automatically
Although we are in the digital age, not all devices change time on their own. This is mainly because this only happens to devices that are connected to the Internet. For this reason, not all watches, Smart TVs, etc., change time automatically. In these cases, the truth is that there will be no other alternative than to modify this parameter manually from their settings. However, there is one exception, and that is that those devices that are connected to a mobile telephone network also change time without needing to be connected to the Internet.
