Majextand is a compact MacBook stand to work more comfortably on your desk. We have tested the Majextand and you can read our experiences in this review!

In this short review we look at a special accessory: Majextand claims to be the thinnest MacBook stand you can buy. You can place your MacBook at a certain angle with an ingenious folding mechanism. Majextand is also suitable for other laptops, but the colors (including rose gold) are clearly matched to the color palette of the MacBooks. You stick this laptop stand on the back of your MacBook and unfold it when you need some elevation.

Text, review and photos: Gonny van der Zwaag (@gonny). The test was carried out in December 2023/January 2024 and describes the situation at that time. The Majextand is made available by the distributor, where you can also order the product.

Majextand: design and packaging

In the iCulture editorial office we work on external screens for our MacBooks, but there are also plenty of offices where employees work hunched over their laptops all day long. That can never be good for your work attitude. And it’s not even necessary: there are various MacBook stands for your desk and some of them can also be folded and taken with you. However, we have rarely seen them as compact as the Majextand.

The Majextand has an ingenious folding mechanism, but this also applies to the packaging. It looks like a cardboard CD cover and immediately evokes “aahs” and “oohs” when opened. Supplied accessories such as adhesive feet and extra adhesive strips are cleverly stored. You can see how this expansion works on our Instagram account. We also show how to stick the Majextand on the back of the laptop.

Of course you have to want this: stick something on the back of your expensive laptop. Majextand promises that the adhesive strips are very strong and will stick well even at temperatures up to 80° C. That is allowed, because the bottom of a laptop can get warm, especially on a laptop without physical cooling.

You can fold the Majextand by pressing the two buttons on the side.

Of course, you have to be prepared to stick something on the back of your expensive laptop. I also had trouble with the Rolling Square Edge Mount: you stick it to the lid of your MacBook to hang an iPhone on it and such a permanently glued accessory is very visible. Fortunately, the Majex tooth is a bit more subtle. You stick it to the bottom. If you choose a color that matches your MacBook well, it will hardly be noticeable. The material has a finish that looks like anodized aluminum.

I was sent the silver variant to test on my midnight blue MacBook Air. Of course, this does not match at all in terms of color, but you can imagine that it is more inconspicuous if you choose the black variant. The manufacturer has also released variants in new MacBook colors such as starlight, but we have not yet found these in Dutch stores.

This stand is made of stainless steel for extra strength and is therefore not really lightweight. It adds 125 grams to the weight of your laptop. On the other hand, the stand is very sturdy.

Majex tooth in use

Naturally, we tested the Majextand to see if it is really that easy to use. First of all, the thickness: that is indeed not too bad. Because the MacBook Air itself already has feet on the bottom (which are about 2 mm high), you are not bothered by the fact that an extra layer of 1.7 mm is stuck on top.

You can easily extend the Majextand into 6 different positions. The stand consists of two halves, which you can extend on both sides. You can close the stand again with a kind of pinch mechanism. This can all be done with one hand. It is difficult to say whether this will continue to function well after years; We haven’t tested for that long.

Is it pleasant to work on such a tilted laptop? Personally, I would prefer to combine it with a separate Magic Keyboard to be able to type comfortably, but that of course makes your travel equipment a bit heavier. What the Majextand mainly ensures is that the screen is placed higher, so that you can remain sitting upright.

Expanded majestically.

I soon discovered that I had glued the Majex tooth on a bit diagonally, but that gave me the opportunity to test something else: how easy is this stand to remove? And is there any glue residue left behind? The adhesive strips of the stand appeared to adhere quite firmly to the laptop. I needed (don’t be alarmed!) a potato peeler to carefully pry off a corner, but I obviously didn’t want to scratch the MacBook. That worked! After a minute or two I had the Majex tooth off. There were two clear stripes visible, but they disappeared after a few rubbings with a damp cloth. Fine.

Majextand supplies extra adhesive strips for future use and you also get four feet to ensure that the Majextand glides more softly over the table. I did not use that, as the stand is slightly thinner than the feet of the MacBook Air and therefore does not touch the table.

Conclusion Majextand review

If you are looking for a compact MacBook stand that you will never lose, then the Majextand might be exactly what you are looking for. It is available in many colors, is hardly noticeable and can be used in multiple positions. The construction is ingenious and does not get in the way. The stainless steel part also provides extra strength. But you will have to stick something on the bottom of your laptop and not everyone likes that.
