When it comes to protecting our devices and stored data, antiviruses are essential elements. But equally important is choosing the one that most interests us in each case, for which we must take into consideration the functions they offer us and how they protect us. Here we are going to review what we are going to find in two of the most popular options: AVG and Bitdefender.
The first thing we must take into consideration is that, as a general rule, these security programs offer us some additional functions and modes of operation. All this is added to the protection system that they have by default and that is responsible for protecting the system and the stored data. But in these times, everything related to security and privacy goes much further, something that these programs try to cover.
Based on the fact that Microsoft’s operating system has its own security solution, Windows Defender, we can also opt for other third-party options. For example, if we install any of the aforementioned, AVG or Bitdefender, Defender will be automatically disabled. In this way we will have the possibility of keeping our computer safe through these new installed antiviruses. But if we focus on both proposals, let’s see which of the two protects us better.
Obviously both proposals have a real-time protection system to protect our equipment. Afterwards and additionally, the AVG antivirus offers us a blocking system against remote access and a firewall for active connections. It is also appreciated the protection that it presents us for purchases on the internet and when carrying out all kinds of banking operations. The program is also capable of blocking malicious email messages and preventing phishing.
Bitdefender, a more complete antivirus
However, we must bear in mind that malicious codes and viruses can reach us through all kinds of ways, some unexpected. It is precisely for all of this that we can consider that the security solution that Bitdefender offers us is capable of better protecting us. To a large extent this is due to the additional features that it integrates by default.
At first we will say that the protection functions mentioned above that we find in the AVG proposal, we also have in this alternative. Much of its general operation is based on the use of Advanced Threat Defense technology that protects us against all kinds of threats, including ransomware. Also, it is worth mentioning the integration of Bitdefender Photon, a technology that adapts the antivirus to the hardware and software configuration of the PC to save resources and improve the speed of malware detection.
In turn, we find an operating mode that protects us from sophisticated viruses such as rootkits and that are eliminated even before starting the PC. Other elements that this solution protects us from are social networks, WiFi vulnerabilities, internet trackers, or misuse of the webcam. And that’s not all, since it also protects elements such as passwords or bank cards from viruses and leaks, all through a more private store. It is also worth knowing that if the computer is used by minors, Bitdefender antivirus offers us its own parental control function.
Recent results from AV-Test and AV-Comparatives
There are several independent companies that are responsible for testing and testing the latest versions of antiviruses released on the market. Obviously, the two proposals that we have talked about come into play here, AVG and Bitdefender. Keep in mind that the results sometimes vary significantly from one version to another. But if we focus on the latest results of two of the most representative companies of this type, such as AV-Test and AV-Comparatives, we can say that the tests have been almost perfect in both cases.
The two antiviruses have obtained the highest scores in both companies. The only exception that we can find here is that Bitdefender has obtained a 5.5 out of 6 in usability within the tests of AV-Test.
