Disney+ reinforces its catalog with more premieres and content that provides its platform with a good way to differentiate itself from its rivals. On this occasion, they are doing exclusively with the new work from Martin Scorsese, the legendary director and producer who returns to the fray with a totally unexpected work.

Scorsese is great. As big as Francis Ford Coppola, but without doing incomprehensible nonsense like Megalopolis. However, it is clear that, with his career, today he can do whatever he wants. And the best example is his next work as a producer, which premieres exclusively on Disney+ on November 29. It will be, mind you, a documentary. And not one related to cinema, but it will be about the Beatles themselves.

Beatles ’64, returning to a historical moment

Scorsese has to love the Beatles and, at this point in his career, he wants to try a documentary. It does so with the collaboration with David Tedeschi, who is placed in the director’s chair so that fans of good music know perfectly what happened in 1964. It was then when the legendary group made its first visit to United States, from which it is possible that more than one secret is still kept.

The Beatles arriving at the United States airport

Now the filmmaker and the other producers of the work believe that it is the best subject for this documentary that comes with great ambition and with the intention of marking an era. That Scorsese is involved in this work is no coincidence. The filmmaker has been a fan of the group for decades and, in particular, has always admired the work of George Harrison. This was already demonstrated in 2011 with the premiere of George Harrison: Living in the Material World, which provided a point of view very typical of the artist’s legend. Furthermore, we must not forget that the song “What Is Life” appeared in the film One of Our Own, directed by Scorsese and released in 1990. Therefore, who better than Martin to bring us a new documentary in which to explore the Beatles legend?

What is it going to be about?

We have already told you that the main theme is the group’s visit to the United States in 1964. That occurred on February 7 of that year and was an unprecedented event. The Beatles arrived in New York after landing at Kennedy Airport and making their fans go crazy to see them live. On their trip, the members of the ensemble visited The Ed Sullivan Show and it was a historic broadcast, since audience records indicated that the program reached 73 million viewers.

The documentary teaches all that and provides a unique look at the time George, John, Ringo and Paul spent in the United States. To make the experience of watching it on Disney+ unbeatable, the documentary has footage that combines different types of content. For example, we will see previously unreleased footage from the trip, live performances from their first concert in Washington, and other historic moments with special mixes.

Furthermore, in Beatles ’64 some moments from the recordings made at the time by Albert and David Maysles are also reused, restored in 4K. Of course, an exhaustive restoration process has been carried out to keep these sequences and materials looking their best. The editing of the documentary, for its part, will make everything have a very fresh style and will ensure that all the group’s followers can enjoy a very high quality experience. Along with this, new interviews have also been carried out with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, while there will be some segments of the documentary that feature fans who experienced the group’s visit to America.

Martin Scorsese is not the only producer of the documentary, since it also has the support of other important names such as Olivia Harrison, Jonathan Clyde, Sean Ono Lennon or Margaret Bodde, among others. For fans of The Beatles, this new work by Martin Scorsese related to the legendary group is going to be one of the best ways to connect with the group. If you want to see the documentary, of course, you will have to be subscribed to Disney+.
