It should be noted that Edge is a program that has had a fairly good acceptance in general terms, the only problem it has is that it competes with Chrome. Now, in order to improve the project and meet the requirements of its users, Microsoft is finally going to remove this controversial feature from Edge.
The first thing we’re going to tell you is that the browser has a tool called Follow this creator, especially focused on keeping up to date with the publications of our favorite content creators. However, it was recently discovered that the function itself had some security flaws. Basically, the vulnerability was centered on the fact that the feature itself sent the visited URLs to the Bing search engine by default.
Following this discovery, which was made by users outside Microsoft, the company began to consider removing the tool. And it seems that at this moment and gradually, this is something that the company is already carrying out in the stable version of the program.
Edge’s Follow This Creator feature is disappearing
Some users have already noticed that in their Edge settings window, the Edge Collections tab no longer includes the Follow this creator functionality. This has obviously been confirmed in the latest updates sent.
To give you a better idea, this Edge feature is focused on website tracking. Basically, it’s a button in the address bar that lets you keep up to date with updates from your favorite content creators. All of this directly from the browser and through the Collections tab. But this feature is far from perfect.
So much so that a few months ago users detected a security breach in it. This allowed Edge to send all visited websites to Bing, which resulted in significant privacy problems. That is why Microsoft has now decided to phase out this feature forever and for all users.
This is something that is gradually changing on the settings page of stable versions of Edge, gradually. In this way, users will see how this feature ends up disappearing permanently in order to avoid problems related to privacy. What we do not know is whether Microsoft will launch an improved version of this tool for tracking content creators in the future.
