Football continues to make it clear that, without a doubt, it is not only the king of sport, but also leads audiences when it comes to television. With data from the month of October in hand, we can see that the two most viewed channels in the payment circuit accessed with the operators correspond to football.
We have received a new edition of the audience and behavior report of television viewers prepared by Barlovento Comunicación and we find interesting data. Where we wanted to focus more specifically this month was on the audience that the pay channels have had, those that we entered with Movistar, Orange, Vodafone and other operators.
Two very clear leaders
It is easy to guess that football is a good investment for television networks in Spain. This is leading to the highest audience records being achieved and bringing together millions of viewers who do not want to miss the games of their favorite teams. If we talk about the circuit of private channels, a ranking where La 1 or any DTT channel is not positioned, the channel that has had the greatest success in October has been DAZN LaLiga. It has added a screen share of 0.3% with a number of 4.7 million viewers and enjoying a coverage of 10.1%. The streaming platform’s channel is a clear winner and benefits, above all, from being available on a multitude of operators, which helps make its projection really high.
The second position, for its part, is occupied by LaLiga TV on M+, a Movistar+ channel that also has a screen share of 0.3% with 4 million viewers and a coverage of 8.5%. Of course, this channel could not be missing from the top, since it is the place where we can see a large part of matches corresponding to LaLiga EA Sports. Its coverage is lower, but it is still a reference and a guarantee of success for Movistar accounts.
The other most viewed channels
The Barlovento Comunicación report covers a top 25, so we can still share more interesting data with you. If we talk about the top 5, the list is made up of Canal Hollywood, Movistar Plus+ and Star Channel, which achieve audiences of 4.1 million and 3.8 million in the last two cases. Both Canal Hollywood and Star Channel have achieved a small growth compared to last month, possibly due to the excellent programming they are offering with quality films.
In sixth position we once again find a football channel: Champions League on M+ with 3.7 million viewers, followed by Warner TV, AXN, Calle 13 and Canal Historia to close the top 10. Most channels maintain a level stable audience compared to last month, although Comedy Central, which occupies position 11, loses a small portion of viewers. Next, the list continues in order with Vamos por M+, DAZN F1, TCM, AMC, SyFy, XTRM, Discovery, National Geographic and DeCasa, the channel that closes the top 20.
The last five positions on the list are occupied by the channels Somos, Canal Cocina, Cosmo, LaLiga TV Hypermotion and Eurosport. In the case of the channel dedicated to the Second Division, its audience reaches 1.8 million viewers with a coverage of 3.8%, so, although it is far from the main league, it does not obtain bad results either.
If we talk about specific programs, the most watched in sports last month was the broadcast of the match between Real Madrid and Fútbol Club Barcelona, El Clásico, which could be seen on the DAZN LaLiga channel on October 26. As already mentioned, it managed to succeed with an audience of 2,029,000 viewers, becoming DAZN’s biggest success to date.
