Many software developers have been experiencing a number of changes in their way of working over the last few months. All of this thanks to the help, in one way or another, provided by some of the most important Artificial Intelligence platforms, as we will now see.

This software sector is constantly growing in terms of all those who try to develop their own projects and share them with the rest of the world. Most of them are familiar with Microsoft’s website, GitHub, where they have the opportunity to receive help, consult other projects and share their own.

This is one of the most widely used platforms of this type for years and has just made an important announcement related to all new AI advances. Just a few hours ago, GitHub announced the availability of the preview version of two new OpenAI models. Specifically, we are referring to the o1-preview and o1-mini proposals that have been talked about so much in recent days.

And the presentation was spectacular, since these are AI language models that are initially capable of reasoning. Thus, the announcement explains that both models are now available in GitHub Copilot and Models. It should be noted that OpenAI launched the new o1 series designed to spend more time thinking before responding to users. Basically, this means that the models focus on offering more useful responses, leaving the fluidity of operation in the background.

Not in vain, as we told you, they can reason through complex tasks and solve more difficult problems than previous OpenAI models. Here they refer to solving problems related to science, software coding or mathematics.

GitHub Copilot receives AI capable of reasoning

Using o1-preview on GitHub Copilot, the development platform team observed that the model’s reasoning capabilities enable a deeper understanding of code constraints, leading to more efficient and higher-quality results for ongoing projects.

With this new feature, developers will be able to select o1-preview or its mini version to enhance their Chat Copilot experience and achieve better results regardless of time. The platform’s developers believe that the benefits will be significant compared to the current default model, GPT-4o. On the other hand, GitHub will also allow users to change models during a conversation depending on the needs of each case.

For example, developers can use the GPT-4o model to get a quick explanation of APIs, and use the o1-preview model to design more complex algorithms. Note that, as mentioned above, OpenAI’s new integrated models in GitHub Copilot prioritize answers over speed when providing them to us.

Once we know all this, those interested can now register through this link. This way you can get access to the new OpenAI o1 through GitHub Copilot with Visual Studio Code.
