Global bug leaves millions of Windows PCs with irreversible blue screen

It’s Friday, the middle of summer, and we’re all already thinking about the weekend. However, as expected, here is Microsoft to shatter the dreams of millions of users of its services. Just a few minutes ago, a new massive computer failure was confirmed, worldwide, which is leaving millions of computers around the world, especially in companies, with a nice blue screen. And it’s all part of CrowdStrike.

Just a few minutes ago, millions of computers around the world started displaying the typical Windows blue screen error. Initially, a normal restart should have restored the entire infrastructure to working order. However, after restarting the computer, the system enters a reboot loop, displaying the same screen over and over again, with no solution.

The networks have been filled with messages, photos, and, of course, memes related to this new massive failure. After several minutes of uncertainty, we have finally been able to find out the cause of the problem: a failure in the services of the security firm CrowdStrike.

Solution

Finally, both Microsoft and CrowdStrike have published an emergency bulletin with an action to mitigate this problem. However, it requires massive action by the IT departments of all those companies that use these security services and have been affected by this problem.

The steps to follow to get computers working again are:

  • Reboot into Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Mode.
  • We must go to the directory C:/Windows/System32/drivers/CrowdStrike
  • We locate the file “C-00000291*.sys” and delete it. Our recommendation is, just in case, to move it to another directory and save it as a backup.
  • Restart the PC.

After doing all this, your computer should boot up again without a blue screen. All that’s left to do now is wait for CrowdStrike to finish detecting and fixing the problem so you can re-enable the security firm’s cloud-based threat protection.
