Among the many projects that Google has underway at the moment, perhaps its Chrome browser is one of the most important. Largely due to its widespread use around the world, where privacy and security are also key.

Most of you are more than likely to use this program on both your desktop and mobile devices. In fact, it is the most used web browser by far. But apart from the privilege of being the leader of the sector, the responsibility in this sense is enormous. What we mean by this is that the firm must take special care in everything related to the security of the program.

Hundreds of millions of users put especially private data that they use over the Internet in Chrome’s hands. The search giant cannot afford to have this customer information compromised under any circumstances. Hence the reason for the constant updates that the browser receives.

Furthermore, from time to time we come across emergency patches that the company makes available to us, as is the case in the case at hand now. These emergency updates are released to fix a vulnerability that has already been detected suddenly and recently.

We tell you all this because right now you should update the Google browser as soon as possible. The reason for all this is that the search giant has just fixed a critical vulnerability in Chrome. It has been named CVE-2024-4058 and can be very dangerous for our teams.

Update Chrome to fix this security flaw

First of all, we must keep in mind that with this emergency update for Google Chrome, a total of four recently detected vulnerabilities are corrected. But without a doubt the most dangerous is the one that has been classified as critical and that resides in the engine of the graphic layer of the program itself. And the aforementioned vulnerability CVE-2024-4058 focuses on a problem that causes type confusion and resides in Chrome’s graphics layer engine.

So that we understand each other, this means that a potential attacker could take advantage of this security flaw to execute arbitrary code on the victim’s computer and put the entire computer at risk. As a curiosity, we will tell you that this critical vulnerability that we are telling you about was discovered by two experts on the subject just a few weeks ago. In addition, for their work they received a total of $16,000 as a reward for the discovery. It was not until now that the company has launched the solution in the form of an emergency update to protect its hundreds of millions of customers.

Apart from this, the computer giant has also corrected another bug classified as high severity and identified as CVE-2024-4059. This is a reading outside the limits of the V8 API that is also corrected with the patch sent now. Therefore, and to be protected, all we have to do is open the browser and go to the Help / information menu option in Google Chrome.

In order to be sure that we are protected, say that the version of the program, already updated and with security patches, is 124.0.6367.78/.79.
