Google’s work keeping the Android operating system continues and the company reveals its latest achievements. The platform remains very protected, but there are still roughness to file so that mobile users can breathe calm.
Android’s level of security has improved remarkably in recent years. The operational platform has received all Google’s effort to ensure that user’s day to day is more bearable. And, in relation to that, they have just revealed that, only in 2024, they have blocked 2.36 million potentially dangerous applications. They are figures that undoubtedly invite optimism.
Android puts the batteries
Google has taken the heavy artillery in last year 2024 with the intention of protecting those who use devices with Android system. And, from what we have seen, the maneuver has come out perfectly. To do this, the company has combined a team of security specialists with an artificial intelligence system enhanced by different algorithms.
The mixture of these resources blocked these 2.36 million applications to reach Google Play, where they could have caused problems at different levels. It is important to take into account, yes, that Google does not indicate exactly that they were applications with viruses, but that it was apps that did not meet Google Play policies. In the process, Google also carried out the closure of 158,000 developer accounts involved in the distribution of these applications.
AI has an active role
Although the human team that is working to protect Android is remarkable, Google emphasizes that artificial intelligence is having a very important role. They mention that, the algorithms they have used have specialized, mainly, in detecting malicious code that could be hidden within the applications. In order for us to get the idea of the relevance of the use of AI, Google comments that more than 92% of the code reviews that have been made by people have had the support of artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is not that experts and AI work independently, but, artificial intelligence helps security specialists so that they can do their job more quickly and easily.
In parallel to what Google is doing in the protection of Google Play, the company has more open fronts so that users can delight with a better experience. They indicate, among other things, that they are doing everything possible for developers to reduce the access volume they request from user mobiles. Thus, they want all unnecessary or excessive access to user data to be reduced. This, for example, has also been a reason why they say they have blocked more than 1.3 million applications last year.
In addition, they are also working closely with developers so that they use the latest security measures and thus guarantee users the best experience. The point of view is put on Android 13 as a turning point, this version of the platform or a posterior being recommended. Throughout the year they mention that they have reinforced the Google Play Protect system and ensure that they will include new functions for security measures to increase. That should avoid, above all, that malware threats sneak into the application store and that can cause problems. Because, after all, although 2024 has been a quieter year for Google Play, as we have previously commented, some incidents that generated risk for users were recorded.
Anyway, the important thing is to see that Google is taking giant steps to get users’ mobiles to be more protected and less risks on the horizon. This year 2025, possibly, very positive results will be signed.
