Now that the month of April is coming to an end, it is time to start planning the premieres that are going to take place on the different streaming platforms. After learning about Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video, today we finally know what HBO Max has in store for us starting next Monday.

The month of May on HBO Max stands out for having a very varied selection of genres. We have as outstanding premieres The plumbers of the White House, the miniseries with overtones of satirical drama that tells another side of Watergate. There will also be a new animated series from Adult Swim, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, and even a Spanish comedy with I don’t like driving. Without further ado, here are all the big releases for next month on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform.

May series on HBO Max

The month will kick off with the premiere of the new series The White House Plumbers on May 2. Starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux, it is a miniseries made up of five chapters and its creators are the Emmy winners for Veep David Mandel, Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck.

It’s a different look at the Watergate scandal, when Nixon’s political spoilers E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux) accidentally overthrow the presidency they were zealously trying to protect and their families along with it. Proving that history can sometimes be stranger than fiction, this new production sheds light on the lesser-known series of events that led to one of America’s greatest political crimes. They complete a luxury cast Lena Heady, Domhnall Gleeson and

Adult Swim will present its new animated series on May 5. Entitled Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, new supernatural animated series from five-time Emmy winner Genndy Tartakovsky. Its plot follows a group of resurrected heroes who reappear in the bodies of some unsuspecting guests, they will have to find a way to protect the world against the threatening darkness.

Fans of the miniseries will have another one starting on May 8. This is the original Warner TV Germany production called On Both Sides of the Abyss. In its six episodes, the story of Luise Berg, a police officer in the German city of Wuppertal, is told. Berg investigates Dennis Opitz, the murderer of her daughter, who has just been released from prison. However, the past between them plays against Luise and no one believes her when she discovers that the apparently exemplary citizen has returned to his old ways and is actually plunged into a spiral of revenge that will drag the police and his young daughter Josi.

Spy/Master will be released on May 19. Premiered at the last Berlinale, now it comes to HBO Max. Set in the Cold War, it chronicles a week in the life of the fictional character Victor Godeanu, the right-hand man and closest adviser to the Romanian dictator Nicolás Ceaușescu. This is, at the same time, also a KGB agent who will have to flee before his cover is blown up.

German Genius is another of the new series that is added to the HBO Max catalog, this time on May 23. German actor Kida Ramand is tired of playing the same roles over and over again. For a change, Kida convinces Ricky Gervais to give him the rights to an adaptation in Germany of his “Extras” series. The only problem is that there are hardly any international stars in Germany, and Germans aren’t exactly known for their sense of humour.

Finally, on May 26 comes the Spanish comedy I don’t like to drive. This original TNT series consists of six episodes and is the work of the creator of Ocho Apellidos Vascos: Borja Cobeaga. Juan Diego Botto, Lucía Caraballo, Leonor Watling, David Lorente, Carlos Areces, Eugenia Cuaresma, Marta Larralde and the special collaboration of Javier Cámara form a cast that is best known in our country.

Inspired by the experience of film director and screenwriter Borja Cobeaga, I Don’t Like Driving tells the story of Pablo, a somewhat self-absorbed and grumpy 40-year-old university professor forced to get his driver’s license. The series has been awarded prestigious awards since its premiere in Spain in November 2022 and in the United States and Latin America in January 2023: it became the most awarded comedy series in the latest edition of the Feroz Awards.

New documentaries of the month

In the documentary section, two HBO originals: one about the acclaimed history of the Los Angeles women’s soccer team, Angel City FC, and another that explores the life and career of singer Dona Summer with previously unpublished material and the collaboration of her daughter.

The first opens on May 17 and delves into the history of the pioneering professional women’s soccer team, a club founded and led by women. The three-episode series is directed by Arlene Nelson and executive produced by Oscar winners Natalie Portman, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, along with Sophie Mas, Anna Barnes and Christine O’Malley.

As for ‘Love to love you, Dona Summer’, it reviews the life and career of the iconic artist from the time her voice stood out in the avant-garde music scene in Germany until it reached the dazzling dance clubs of New York.
