The Spanish national football team is back in fashion! La Roja has been crowned European champions and is now heading to the Olympic Games. This is the U-23 team, which, in addition to the young players, can be joined by three veteran footballers. As you can imagine, the selected team includes some familiar faces.

The football team that will represent Spain at the Olympic Games is also aiming high. There are 16 teams in the competition and all of them want a medal, but only three will win one. In addition to Spain, the following teams will participate: France, Argentina, Japan, the United States, Morocco, Paraguay, Iraq, Egypt, New Zealand, the Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Guinea, Uzbekistan, Israel and Mali.

Men’s football team

Spain is in Group C, where it shares space with Egypt, Uzbekistan and the Dominican Republic. The team, for its part, is made up of the players that the Royal Spanish Football Federation announced at the time in the video we attach. As you can see, there are two names that will surely sound familiar to you, given that they participated in the team that won the Euro 2024 trophy. They are Fermín López and Álex Baena, players of FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF respectively. Alongside them, there are other high-quality players who also have devastating talent.

The big absentees are Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, who, given their age and ability, could easily have been in this team. However, both players have decided to rest in view of the intensity with which they had to compete at the European Championship. In any case, the team has a very solid squad and is expected to achieve great things. It should not be forgotten that, at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Spain won the silver medal.

The schedules for the first phase are already known, so take note of when they will be:

  • Spain vs Uzbekistan – Wednesday 24 July at 3:00 p.m.
  • Dominican Republic vs Spain – Saturday, July 27 at 3:00 p.m.
  • Spain vs Egypt – Tuesday 30th July at 3pm

The quarter-finals will then be played on 2 August, the semi-finals on 5 August and the medal matches on 8 and 9 August. And how can you watch the matches? The full broadcast of the Olympic Games will be carried by the Eurosport channels, which can be seen on Max and DAZN, and other television services available in the country, including Movistar Plus+.

In addition, RTVE is going to broadcast 400 hours of Olympic sports. It will divide them between La 1, La 2 and Teledeporte, but all the content, barring any surprises, will be unified in the digital service RTVE Play. To keep up to date with the matches, you would only have to enter the Olympic Games section of this platform and see the broadcasts that are announced in the upcoming section. Barring any surprises, there should be no problems in watching all the matches of the Spanish football team.

Women’s football team

Of course, the high level of the women’s football team will also be a topic of discussion at the Olympic Games. Let’s not forget that the women’s team is fresh from winning the 2023 World Cup, so it is one of the teams on which all eyes are focused. In their case, fast-paced matches with good football are also expected. The group stage schedule is as follows:

  • Spain vs Japan – Thursday 25th July at 17:00
  • Spain vs Nigeria – Sunday 28th July at 7:00pm
  • Brazil vs Spain – Wednesday 31 July at 5:00 p.m.

As with the men’s team, you will have the same options to watch the matches live and enjoy the victories of the Spanish players.
