AutoCAD is known as one of the most widely used computer-aided design software in the world, especially for the use of 2D drawings and 3D modeling, whether to rotate, design, edit, among other aspects. Regarding the current development in which we find ourselves, there are different companies and students who in one way or another come to this platform in order to help each other in their projects.

However, there is an important factor in which we all fall by mistake and that is when the file closes unexpectedly and the system autosave is not active. In these cases, what usually happens is that our file is not saved and with it, we lose all the work we have achieved so far.

However, for these occasions, there is a much simpler solution than you think and it is what we will teach you in this post; since the ideal in this case is that you activate and proceed to configure AutoCAD’s autosave automatically.

Enabling AutoCAD Auto Backup

One of the things that you surely know is the famous “.bak.”, which appears when a file breaks, however, to be able to solve this, you only have to change the extension to “.dwg” and you will see how it will start working, But where can you find the .bak?

Within the options, it is possible to choose the path by which to save a backup, and this can be in a specific folder or in a folder that is generic. However, this is something that is not infallible, so a thousand things can happen for which this type of file does not have the same function and thus, it does not work the way you want.

In order to find it, you must enter the tools tab, and once inside said option, you must enter the “options” tab and after that in the “Open and Save Tab” section.

If you go to the lower left section, you will see the option “file security precautions” you must make sure to keep the ‘Create backup with each save’ box checked, which will do all the work

Finding the temporary files folder

This is one of the searches on the network with more users in it, since these folders are usually in places where users do not usually search frequently.

However, finding it is not very difficult, since you only have to enter the tools tab to, once inside, go to the Options tab, in which you will be shown a drop-down menu, in which you must enter on the page “Files tab”

What do I have to look for immediately?

In general, what we are looking for is a file, whose extension has “.sv$” in conjunction with the name of your file, plus some numbers at the end.

When you see it, you will be able to identify that this is the backup that was generated automatically, which has a time limit for its activation of 10 minutes.

In general, the .sv$ is maintained as long as the drawing is open within the system, so once it is closed, it is deleted.

For this reason, it is important that you know that this type of file will only appear, as long as the following circumstances occur: That the Fatal Error occurs, or a specific failure in AutoCAD, that your PC hangs and you must restart and also if any power failure occurs and your device shuts down.
