All those users who have an account on various video streaming platforms are using the ad-supported modality to save a few euros. This is the case of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video where these elements have become common for many.
And there are a good number of streaming content regulars who prefer to waste some time with advertising, and save several euros per month. However, it is also true that these ads can sometimes become a major annoyance. Hence, many begin to assess whether they are really worth it or not.
Initially, advertising, or rather the lack of it, was one of the great attractions of these video platforms. But over time, those responsible for them, and in order to offer a wider variety of subscription types, have added some cheap ones with ads. At the moment, Max is one of the few proposals that offers us this possibility. But in this case we are going to focus on Amazon Prime Video, which has just made an announcement that almost no one is going to like.
Surely many of you have already tried first-hand these commercials that arrived relatively recently on the platform of the e-commerce giant. Unlike what happens on other platforms, here advertising is imposed on the conventional subscription, and we can only eliminate it by paying an additional price. Specifically, we will have to pay 1.99 euros per month to get rid of these ads.
Obviously, a good part of the users who have their Prime subscription and enjoy the streaming service are not willing to pay more to remove them.
Amazon Prime Video ads will last longer
But perhaps soon they will change their mind, or simply cancel the aforementioned Amazon subscription. Advertising on this specific platform arrived last April 2024, but it seems that the company is not finished in this regard.
We tell you all this because recently, the vice president of the streaming service, Kelly Day, has declared that she plans to introduce more advertising minutes on Amazon Prime Video. This is something that would begin to be carried out from next year 2025.
It must be taken into account that the arrival of advertising to this specific modality was carried out to pay for the content available here. Apparently, the payment for the Prime subscription is not enough to maintain the video platform, and additional income was needed. Well, now we know that the platform will increase the number of advertising minutes, and possibly that means it needs even more revenue.
From there, users will have three possibilities when the time comes. Either they pay to remove these ads, continue enjoying Prime Video losing more and more minutes of advertising, or they can also unsubscribe from Prime. Obviously, with this last move they would also lose all the advantages that the firm offers us when making purchases here.
