It is increasingly common for those who own more than one vehicle. For example, it may happen that we have purchased a new, more modern one, but we want to keep that car that has been with us for decades.
And many citizens in our country have an old vehicle stored in the garage, but they don’t really know what to do with it. Selling it or sending it to the scrapyard makes them very sorry, so now we are going to give you a very attractive solution. It may happen that we can register it as historical in a much simpler way than to date.
Requirements to declare a car as historic
We tell you all this because last October 1, 2024, the regulations in this regard changed drastically. Thanks to this modification, we now have the possibility of transferring our vehicle to historical cataloging in a quick and easy way.
Initially, the only necessary requirement is that it be more than 30 years old. Once the vehicle as such meets this requirement, we can then get to work to declare it as a historic car.
Aside from the years of age that we mentioned, to carry out the procedure as such we will also need four current photos of the car so that its condition can be verified. First of all, another aspect that we must keep in mind is that for what we are telling you we will have to pay a fee that is around 20 euros at the moment. It is important that we keep in mind that the cost of the process as such, until the change in regulations that we have mentioned, was much more expensive.
How to carry out the process with our online vehicle
As you can imagine, this is a procedure that we will have the possibility of carrying out through the official website of the DGT. And the General Directorate of Traffic is currently trying to make this process as easy as possible for us through this link.
From this website they already inform us that it is essential that the vehicle has the MOT passed and also all taxes paid and up to date. In addition, you must be registered in an ordinary manner and of course not be unregistered.
Here we will also find a series of documents in PDF format to fill in the corresponding data if we wish to make the change in person at a DGT office.
It must be taken into consideration that to carry out the process as such online, we need to identify ourselves digitally. This is something that we can carry out on the DGT website through the Cl@ve method. From there we will only have to fill in the data that the website will request regarding us and the vehicle that we want to convert to historic.
It is also important to keep in mind that we must be the owner of the vehicle at that moment in order to complete the process itself. Once the fees, 20.81 euros, have been paid, the website will ask us for 4 photos of the car. All we have to do is wait for the new circulation permit to arrive.
